I dont know how or why he drowned. He was a decathalon, in shape, young and vivacious!! He knew how to swim very well. he was one of those people who everyone, old and young, LOVED. His smile or laugh could affect ur whole day. He was active in school as well as his religion...i knew him personally...and i dont understand!!!

I did not personally know him but I am truly shock because I just saw him running hills over off of California Street just a evening before.
My prayers is with the family. I wonder how can someone so in shape have such a freak accident/ Why did the camera show them saving him but not anything before that? Please help me understand to ease my mind. God only knows…… |

I'm still in shock about the death of Morrey. I can't believe he's actually gone. he was a friend and now that he's gone there's a feeling of emptiness that shouldn't be there. R.I.P morrey we'll all miss you :(

I was Morrey's best friend. I was his walking partner at graduation, stayed with a hotel with him at state, ate lunch with him everyday, to see him go is a very difficult thing, but we must look at his life and learn from the great things that he has done, and follow his path to greatness. I personally dedicate my college career in track and field to morrey.
its too funny he just left me a voicemail on my phone a couple days before this happend. I was going to call him back the day that it happend as well. some things just cant be explained.. but everything happens for a reason. He is in a better place now. R.I.P. Morrey. And he had asthma that could have been a key factor to this tragedy, also, knowing him personally and have trained with him, I know he always tries to push his workouts as far as he can, and well if you do that in a pool, when nobody is around, you can get exausted. I wish he would have just left with his roomates |

I live in the area where this horrible tragedy happened and Im also a freshman at Cal Poly. I feel for any of you that knew him. I was jogging at the same time around the neighborhood, and heard sirens through my music, but didn't tink much of it. Then my roommate told me the next day that a freshman at cal poly drowned in our community pool. This is so sad, but he's with God now.

Dear Josh,
Your post shows such compassion and concern. I also wanted to write about pushing the limits and living a high risk lifestyle. When people are young and so full of dynamic energy... it is not easy, or as exciting, to keep making the choices that are "safest" for all concerned. I remember when I became a lifeguard and a Red Cross Swimming Instructor; I had it drilled into me "never swim alone". I was required to teach this to my students. When I heard the heartbreaking news about Morrey, I tried to imagine how hard it must be on everyone. I hope this place where people can post will help ease the sorrow. |

It's now been over a month and I see that most everyone has gone back to his or her life. They may feel his absence, but there are some family and friends are still Googling his name, just like I did. I'm sure you have prayed for Morrey's soul and for his family and much appreciate it. In fact, I am certain that we would not have been able to withstand this blow had it not been for these and the grace of God. Peace be upon you and your family. We are still awaiting a verdict on how such a strong swimmer in peak condition drowned in a pool. All we can pray for is that he did not feel anything and it was quick. |

Morrey had an undiagnosed heart condition. Although it is possible that he was in terrible pain and was conscious that he was drowning and could do nothing about it, we like to believe that he blacked out and then drowned, not even realizing what was happening. It would have been one of the most merciful deaths, somewhat like dying in one's sleep.
Of course, he had no drugs (including steroids) or alcohol in his system. |
