Shaking felt up and down Central Coast
Cal Coast News
People all over San Luis Obispo County said they felt shaking around 9:30 a.m., and some in coastal areas said they heard a big boom.
Sportscaster CJ Silas was hiking near Avila Beach at the time and said she heard a very mysterious boom.
“I heard a gnarly, big boom,” Silas said.“It was different than anything I’ve ever felt before.”
Some Central Coast residents initially believed an earthquake occurred, but the U.S. Geological Survey did not report any earthquakes in the area at the time.

There is ABSOLUTELY no way that was just a sonic boom. The walls of my house were shaking violently, never heard of a sonic boom doing that plus it went on for a good 10 seconds. They must be testing some new type of weapon.

Have to admit, never felt anything like it. And couldn’t find any conformation of a sonic boom causing 5-10 seconds of window rattling. All reports of sonic booms I could find stated they were just that–a quick boom sounding event that could also be felt.

KSBY -(Links have complete "story")
Mystery of local shaking, rumbling...
Loud boom turns out to be...
Calls poured into our KSBY newsroom and to local law enforcement Thursday morning after several loud bangs were heard and felt up and down the Central Coast. Many people also reported feeling shaking.
"I heard the doors in my house banging and the windows were shattering," said one Pismo Beach resident.
"For the most part, everybody was reporting the same thing: that it had felt like an earthquake," said Jake Miller of the Pismo Beach Police Department, "They had heard a sound, but nothing was coming out regarding any earthquake activity in the area."
he shaking could be felt as far south as Lompoc and as far north as San Simeon. There are even reports of folks feeling the rumbling as far inland as Bakersfield.

UPDATE 11:20 a.m. The United States Geological Survey has confirmed that there have not been any earthquakes in San Luis Obispo County on Thursday. The rattling sensation and loud sounds reported by residents from Nipomo to the North Coast were likely from jet planes or military aircraft flying overhead, said Steve Walter, seismologist.
“What people have been feeling is not caused by shaking in the ground,” said Walter.“It is something happening in the atmosphere.”
Walter said the rattling did not appear to be caused by a sonic boom.
“There is usually no question about a sonic boom, because it is so abrupt,” said Walter.“What happened this morning was not abrupt, it was emergent.”
The USGS said about six instances of the movement were measured, starting about 9:30 a.m.
“It was not something breaking the sound barrier; more like a loud and energetic engine making waves,” said Walter.
Vandenberg Air Force Base doesn’t have fixed-wing aircraft that would create sonic booms, a spokesperson said.
The public affairs officer, Sgt. Lendeau, said others have reported what sounded like sonic booms.
“We’re trying to figure out what’s going on ourselves,” he said.
