They may be champions; however , will they ever be refered as the most decorated athelete in history.
Before you reply, I would like you to ponder this query. I understand your nature to berate the champ (Kwan), howewver I just can't wait to see what your rebuttle to this post will be, for me think 'tis benign!
Well, they don't have to be remembered as the most decorated athletes in history! Don't forget that Kwan is most often referred to as "the most decorated athlete in history WHO DIDN'T WIN THE OG"
you, know the GOLD she doesn't need to be GOLDEN...the GOLD that doesn't matter to her now that she knows she can't get it..the GOLD that she so wanted that she made the 2006 Olympics all about poor poor wittle Michelle..Tara was the youngest World and Olympic Champion..she also was very young when she creamed Kwan at the Nationals. Sarah was ripped off in so many competitons with Kwan that some of Kwan's medals belong to her and other skaters as well so all her decorations aren't that big of a deal. Even at that when someone hangs on and on and on in pursuit of OG they are bound to pick up a few medals along the way..earned or not...even some of Kwan's fans admit that her many 6's were a bit much for the performance..Yeppers, Kwan is decorated alright! Cruise the net..see how overrated and hyped Kwan is and oh how very arrogant...*2006* gotta get the Gold for the USA..yeah, right! Whine in, splat, whine out! Enter Emily the rightful owner of the spot..nope, she didn't win..but she was ripped off..and for Kwan to have the gall to compare her 2006 petition and 'empathize' with Emily is sickening...the 1994 incident was completely different and Kwan's second place win at NATS was a great big splatfest as well so that stupid comparison is almost as ludicrous as 'Kwan's gracious withdrawal due to her respect for the Olympics'...more like get while the getting is good after soaking up the press and pity.

As I have already mentioned in other posts, you have never ceased to amazed me! How long did it take you to gather this information?
After being exposed to your posts, probably not long; for all I know you may have registered in your mind a gazetteer of every negative article ever written about Kwan.

BTW You seem to be selectively forgeting that Kwan was overlooked for the Olympics in favor of Nancy Kerrygan. If I do recall ( I am sure you'll help me remember) exactly she was about 13, way before 16 was the age limit. I think at that time was her opportunity,(have you everheard of opportunity missed? I think it was at that time) then, she was just 13; her limb more amenable. Do you not see the irony that it is usually a younger person with softer limb who usually upsets the veterans.(Not always though; however, most of the time) If you want to be technical, I'll say Kwan was ROBBED as well.

It took very little time for me to gather this information..it's all out there for anyone to view..yes, Kwan was 13..yes, she was more flexible..but read the opinions on the youtube program..she wasn't going to win the Gold then even if she did compete..an opportunity missed..perhaps, but Nancy Kerrigan had the right to petition..she was brutally attacked within the sport and she had trained for the Nationals, been in many major competitions and even with the flexible (read, money matters, ratings matter,) petitioning rules she completely qualified.(And I am NOT a Kerrigan fan..especially after that Olympics..she was really not a very good sport and then her participation in the garbage about Johnny Weir caused me to lose any regard I may have had for her)..be that as it may she had every right to be in the 1994 Olympics..legally and morally. And no way have I ever selectively 'forgotten that fact'..it's a favorite of the Kwanatics in defense of what Kwan pulled in 2006. There is absolutely no comparison of the two situations aside from the petitioning option. And Kwan herself using that to justify her ugly move..and saying she empathized with Emily is just disgusting! Nancy was attacked, criminally attacked..Kwan had an owie, skipped all the competitions, avoided Nats lest she place off the podium and then carried out her plan to manipulate her way into the 2006 games..you bet I think it was planned and you bet I think that Kwan would have lost at the Nationals..how did her owie get so much better and then so much worse again. Owie hurts, can't compete in Nats..owie all better..auditon for the Olympics...march, smile, wave, grin,..come out on ice and owie hurts again..snivel and look so pathetic at practice in full view of world and then have press conference where her GROIN was the topic of conversation and crawl out of Torino to sign with the mouse! I don't believe that she got a new injury..get real..a world class athlete injured so badly at her first practice (stiff sore)..new injury, unrelated to old injury...did you know her injury had to be new or she couldn't be replaced? I really WISH KWAN had competed in 1994..that would squash that ridiculous argument once and for all! Watch the 1994 Nationals..especially the long program:) How sad that this is even an issue. If Kwan were a true sport it wouldn't be!!

I don't know why I am bothering to post since the above discussion took place all the way back in Feb. I guess it is because I can't stand not to say my piece, even if no one reads it. I am totally shocked to have sat here and read all of this Kwan bashing. I am astounded that there are people out there who have so much disregard and disrespect for her. My question is why? Because Sarah Hughes did not win some gold medals? Sarah may have been a strong skater, but she never mastered the style and interpretation that Michelle had, and if you recall, that was half of the score, and in case of a tie-it was the tie breaker-not the technical mark.

Michelle's skating possessed purity. Go back and look at her skating. Notice the curve of her back in all of her moves....every landing, footwork, spirals, cross overs, spins, every move on the ice was executed with perfect technique. So what if she fell. Everyone falls, but Michelle was known for her consistency. One fall cost her dearly and that was the 3flip in Salt Lake.

What is with this harping on 1994? That was her first year at the senior level. What did you expect her to do? In 1995 Nicole Bobeck won and Michelle placed second. I was there. The next year Michelle won and she kept winning until she had 9 titles and 5 World titles and 2 Olympic medals. Are you implying she didn't deserve any of her titles? Where have your eyes been? And the public not liking her? Have you been to a competition when Michelle won? I have. In 2003 I was at Worlds. She received a standing ovation from a 4 tier totally packed arena in Wash., DC. She stood in the center of that ice looking so small, while all around her the ice was littered with mini-stuffed Chevy's one of the sponsors had given out. That crowd could not stop giving her adulation. I suppose that meant they didn't like her and she didn't deserve her win. Baloney.

Let's pull ourselves back to the world of reality. Kurt Browning, one of the most respected male figure skaters, holds 4 World Champion titles and no Olympic medals. Is he a loser, is he derided, is he a failure? The answer is no. Michelle hold 5 World titles and 2 Olympic medals and 9 National titles and it is extremely doubtful that anyone will ever surpass her record. So how about accepting it and getting over it. She did not go sniveling away from Torino. She was a class act. Emily Huges was not denied anything. Michelle had to audition in order to be approved to go to Torino. She was approved. She couldn't have done that if she were injured. Obviously she became reinjured. In order to completely heal, during the COI tour, she was not permitted to execute any jumps. You can say whatever you want about that, but obviously her drs. were directing her in what to do to heal that groin injury.

Most of the American public who are skating fans adore Michelle. Most young figure skaters want to be like her. If you ask one of them, they are not going to tell you Tara or Sarah. They wouldn't even know who Tara or Sarah are. Emily Hughes is a clunky skater. She doesn't have the perfectly arched back of a Michelle, Sasha, Kimmie, Aslisa, Mao, Shizuka, etc. Pay attention to that quality the next time you watch figure skating. The judges may be looking at a few more things than the audience in the stands or the fans in front of their TV's.

And, by the way, at 2003 Worlds, Sarah was there, but flutzed her way through the week and placed somewhere in the pack. No standing ovation for her. So much for OG.

I can't stand all the new skaters coming around except Czisny. She's one chick who really deserves gold. Hughes..she's too slow of a skater. I've seen her in person, she skates at my club. Meh! I dislike Kimmmie and want Michelle vr. Cohen back!
I would love to see the exciting Sasha Cohan back competing. Her programs were always exciting and she is a joy to watch.
