Meeting between Croatia & Slovenia and Olli Rehn representing the EU, while some progress has been made, Slovenia continues to abuse its EU membership veto power. It is difficult to say how much Croatia would benefit from becoming member of the EU. While many believe it would be a good thing for Croatia to join the EU, others feel it is better off remaining independent. Recently someone suggested for Croatia to remain indpendent like Switzerland, though there is no comparison between the countries and Switzerland with its long standing neutrality guaranteed. The EU has extended its assistance with the process to eventual EU membership for Croatia and the EU continues to extend assistance and mediate on out-standing border issues. While Slovenia already a EU member, the past haunts Slovenia and its less than acceptable candor toward Croatia. Slovenia and the EU will benefit greatly from Croatia joining the EU due to its strategic location. Many Croatians within Croatia and those living out-side of Croatia have their reservations about joining the EU. I do believe that in the long run, Croatia and EU will see great benefits. Slovenia on the other hand should extend its assistance to Croatia and not veto Croatia's succession to EU membership.
