Skopje is the capital and the largest city in the Republic of Macedonia with more than a quarter of the population of the country, as well as its political, cultural, economic, and academic centre.

Skopje's airport, Skopje Aleksandar Makedonski International Airport , is 20 kilometers away from Skopje. It is connected to lots of big European airports. The airport is accessed by the main highway Belgrade-Skopje-Thessaloniki which connects it directly with the city. Unfortunately there is no public transport that connects the airport with Skopje so you would have to take a taxi or arrange personal transportation.

Another Macedonia's airport is Ohrid Airport. It is a small tourist airport, which provides air-parking space for 8 aircrafts from commercial aviation and 5 aircrafts for general aviation. At the moment, passenger terminal and other airport capacities service about 60 000 passengers and about 1 000 aircraft movements annually.

Flying can be the cheapest way to get to Macedonia, especially if the flights are booked well in advance. But if you want to take a look to more cities, remember to utilize car rental services at Izzirentacar.com , because they offer for your car rental needs to get the best prices, vehicles, and service available in a country.

Leader of main Greek opposition party PASOK, Jorgos Papandreu fired his Media Advisor, because of his view that Macedonia should keep its name and there are ethnic Macedonians in Greece.

Advisor Grigoris Valianatos was promptly fired, after showing up as a guest on a TV show, in which he expressed views different from official Athens.

Mr. Valianatos, for TV Station "Extra 3" said that he was for Greece's northern neighbor to be called Macedonia and nothing else, as well as Greece should recognize the ethnic Macedonians, reports Greek daily Kathimerini.

Not too long ago, the Greek Ambassador to Macedonia, Mrs. Dora Grosomanidou was promptly fired after making a statement that official Athens should acknowledge the fact there are Macedonians living there, as well as that Macedonia has been around before Greece was.

For Greece it is unacceptable for anyone, particularly someone in Government to express views different than official Athens and then keep their jobs. Dozens of people have so far been fired, though only the very high profile cases make the news. The Athens museum curator had also been fired for refusing to hide Macedonian relicts that were previously on display.//11.08.08

Leading members of a political party must comply with the will of the party's majority, at least for major issues. This is the rule of democracy. If not, they have to leave and possibly start their own party.
