So far this vacation is boring the pants right off of me and possibly onto an undereducted man or woman who is looking at them and realizing the pants cost more than their vehicle. On one hand they don't know how to say the manufacturer of the jeans and on the other, they were made by M+FG. Despite that it would probably fetch them quite a bit of precursor chemicals for their preschool slash meth lab if they could only sell used pants which have an unspellable for this area manufacturer. It's sad, really it is.

I'm thinking I may cut it short, get back home, and freeze my arse off either going on the Argosy or just standing next to it for a very long time. It'll be more fun.

Leeeaaavviiiiing, on a jet plane, don't know when, I'll be back again.

Actually it's a train and I know exactly when I arrive but good god I cannot wait to get back home.

Working poor, hey, I get it... some get the good jobs and some do not. It's not my fault you didn't get one of the good ones and it's probably not yours either. It's not my fault I got one of the good jobs but hey, I'm not complaining either.

It's just the way life happens.

I used to think the same way you seem to think. I had a good job, set for life, I thought. Then... Company outsourced it to India. College educated. Fifty plus... Nobody wants you at that age.

I'd say it's impossible to outsource my career, but thanks for the words of wisdom.

I wouldn't bet on it. A friend of my is a medical specialist, a radiologist. A few months ago the hospital that he had been under contract to for years suddenly outsourced his job. Now, when you go there and get an X-ray, MRI, etc., the hospital sends it to India over the internet, an Indian radiologist reads it, and sends the results back.

Same thing has happened to a lot of American engineers, too.

The day may well come when you just go to the clinic, a minimum wage tech sits you in front of a camera, hooks you up to a bunch of machines, and an MD in India or somewhere looks at his screens, does a diagnosis, and prescribes treatment.

That's nice, but since you don't know what my career is you have no grounds to state that it cannot be outsourced.

If I built roads it would be impossible to outsource my job. A road needing built in Federal Way cannot be outsourced and built in Pakistan, then shipped here even if you have really, really fast internet.

Plenty of jobs are like that - impossible to outsource.

You'd do well to find out what my job is before telling me if it can be outsourced. Until then, since I know what my career is and you don't, you're pretty much going to have to take my word for it that my job cannot be outsourced.

True, there are some jobs that cannot be outsourced. But the Big Business guys that get the contracts can bring in foreign labor. That's what has happened to jobs like road building, carpentry, etc. in this area. Hell, they're even starting to bust prostitutes brought in from overseas in places like Louisville, Atlanta and Nashville.

Again, my job cannot be outsourced.

Your points are valid but do not apply to me.

Maybe it can't.

But back to the cruises: better hope the cruise line hires a better driver for the boat than Seattle based Foss Maritime hired to run the M/V Delta Mariner. The ship took out a bridge in my area a while back, disrupted east-west travel big time because it was the only bridge over the Tennessee River. Detour turned a 30 mile trip to Murray into about 100. Caused a lot of commuter students at Murray State University to have to drop out for a couple of semesters, people from east of the river who worked west of it could not get to work and vise versa, etc. Hell of a mess.

I've taken the murder mystery dinner cruise several times without incident from the Captain, so it's a fairly safe bet to take it again. I could live my life in fear of any number of what if scenarios but it seems that life is not nearly as scary or fraught with peril as it is made out to be.

Sorry to hear of your bridge over troubled water woes. With luck it will not happen again.
