First and foremost, thank you for your response. I will admit you are right about the way I used the term ironic; it was incorrect. Kinda ironic, isn't it? The education lacking thing I said was a cheap shot. I apologize for that also. I was writing "in the heat of the moment" let's say. I agree that it is disrupting to the class if invitations are passed out at that time. My point is that in alot of public schools there are these "unspoken rules" that are unclear and hard to follow. Handbooks will often contain information that does not directly relate to curriculum-such as uniform rules. My point being here that rules are included in the handbook outside the curriculum of the school. I think the school should state in the handbook that "invitations should be sent out from home, or during recess, or should be left at front office etc....." My point with the school sending invitations to school events was that if they say we shouldn't hand out invitations unless it's for the whole class-then it's hypocritical for them to do so. In conclusion: I suppose I've become jaded by working in public and private school systems for years. It is frustrating when rules and policies are unclear.

No worries on the dig. I gave a zinger back, so it's tit for tat.

Many personal friends are teachers, both in the public and private sectors, so I hear the stories and can understand where you're coming from. But school-sponsored clubs/events, like the honor society, don't arbitrarily limit membership as a private individual can. The former is open for all who qualify, and all can with due effort, but the latter's friends are limited to personal choice and personal choice alone. So, honestly, maybe I'm missing your point on that particular example because I don't see the comparison.

I think if schools used common sense instead of acquiesing to or drawing a hard line with entitled parents there would be less policy confusion. Again, though, I understand how one minute you're told to use your discretion, the next your told it goes against policy. Frustrating is putting it mildly!

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Libra

Happy New Year, Libra!. How's that poor old body feeling this morning?! If you're having a gathering, include casual acquaintances or newcomers as if they were one of the family. You're a real social animal and you know how to put people at their ease. This is a wonderful talent: not only do you have a network of friends and social contacts, as well as business ones, but you have the ability to bring others together. Perhaps you should start a dating agency this year!
