BET: Not the Only One to Blame

Full story: afroglitzmag.com

Just like many others, I tuned in to the BET Awards this year to see their Michael Jackson tribute and I regret helping make it the most watched show of the night. Although I wanted to be proved wrong, the horrible outcome was pretty much expected. BET is a channel where it can't go one hour without exposing children to things that are age inappropriate and making black people look like total7...

BET doesn't promote good music artist, peoples vote don't count on 106 and park, they choose what to show. The record labels don't promote their artist, they hardly do tours.

Also I find a lot of the neo-soul artist to be boring sometimes, their music beats are so boring and I like good beats too.

Alicia keys is ok to me but her music lately is boring and she needs to change her style up some and that swizz beatz scandal didn't help her,I don't look at her the same.

It's not enslavement if the viewers tune into it willingly. And the participants of the entertainment offer it freely.

It is enslavement because the bulk of Black Enslavement Television viewers are the youth. First, it is not a Africoid Station - it is owned by Viacom [run, not that it is significant in itself, a Caucasian of the Jewish Faith - mentioned that because of the BET's name]. Second, it cast of shows, schedule, ensures a mentality that reinforces a mentality that accepts status quo. Third, it has done more damage than any other station on television. The reason? It is linked to Africoid people which justifies negative stereotypes through BET's programming. Therefore, since its agenda is regressive - it is natural our youths are lacking values. There is nothing good about BET. Even at night, you ever see those hustlers claiming to represent God? WOW. However, you are correct - explaining why I stopped watching BET.

Back in the day, when Hollywood was extremely negative, what did/do you call that? Entertainment or enslavement? Then what is the difference?

With the exception of Alicia Keys's scandal, I agree with your post a 100 percentage. Ms. Keys is like us, trying to find her place. Therefore, like us, she has made/is going to make mistakes. To judge her private affairs by higher standard is being hypocritical. Ms. Keys, unlikely most entertainers, is willing to take controversial positions like attacking music promoting guns and drugs. Plus, she is beautiful. LOL.

BET will put on programming their viewers want to see. It's all about ratings. They would put Hannity on if they felt like his ratings would be high enough. Give the people what they want.

BET is a horrorshow of awful stereotypes, agreed.

Plus you get two points for using "Africoid" in a sentence.(Although it still sounds like a medical term). "I hate to tell you this, Mister Smith, but your scaphynctalorus doldrumus has gone from benignly africoid to largely caucasoid. You've got six months to live, tops."

If all you like is "good beats" then you have nothing to be complaining about. Then current crop of Southern Rap swamping BET and the radio should suit you. People who want to hear real music don't watch "BET" or "MTV" anyways.

Real Brother here.

I'm not sure what the Alicia Keys Swizz Beats scandal was so would someone please enlighten me?

I do think that Alicia Keys is a lesbian as is the management of BET and virtually all of Black media. How tragic that BET has a reputation for exploiting women and showing Blacks as Coons and Buffoons when the people running the station are Black lesbians and the few GAY men they allowed into the entertainment industry.

The agenda of Black man HATING Black lesbians is to destroy the Black Race by vilifying, emasculating and demonizing Black men. They want to blow up events like Chris Brown vs. Rianna or Juanita Bynum or the silly "Wrap It UP" campaigned aimed as scaring Black women away from Black men when 85% of all new Aids/HIV cases aren't from Black men and Black women but from GAY Black man HATING Black lesbians and the GAY men they CHOOSE to have sex with in the hopes of having a GAY child.

No offense to Micheal Jackson but if he wasn't GAY then "Miss Thang" on ANTM isn't. Again, they want to promote Black men as being dysfunctional, feminine, demonic anything to turn the 30% of Black women left GAY.

No Real Brothers can be found on BET and few ever will. How in the HELL can a Black station have existed for 40 years and NOT ONCE address the issue of Black Self-hatred and the buying into the MYTH that Whites are Superior that has so damaged our community?

We need to check BET and the rest of Black media(Radio One, Essence, Ebony, Magazine, Oprah, Tyra, Terry McMillan, Alice Walker etc.) because the Black man HATING Lesbians who control it are wrong and they are the biggest threat to our survival since the advent of White Supremacy.

I didn't say I "only" like good beats but for a good song the beat needs to be there too.

I was speaking to a friend today about the lack of representation of Black people in childrens programming. We had the idea that there should be a network, equivalent to Disney or Nickelodeon where Black children can watch shows where there is not only one Black person in the entire cast. I remember when I used to visit my friends young cousins. They were between the ages of 8 and 12 and they watched BET rather than watch the existing childrens networks because the existing networks rarely showed Black families or friendships. Most of the shows on Disney or Nickelodeon have one or two Black children on them, playing a "best friend" role to a white child. There have been a few exceptions, such as Thats so Raven and The Proud Family, but not many. These kids would have loved to be able to watch shows made for kids their age featuring Black characters. Also, there are few options for young children to learn about their African or African american heritage. Shows like Gullah Gullah Island dont seem to exist anymore. I say that BET should either invest in creating Black cartoons and childrens shows, and air them during daytime programming hours, then eventually a whole network can be devoted to Black or multicultural childrens entertainment. My friend has a two year old daughter and said he would love to see a network like this for her. I wonder who I can approach with this idea... he and I are really interested in pursuing it.

If BET does that, how will the welfare Queens be entertained during the morning after crack bindges, or mid-day gin n juice hours? Maybe you should solicit PBS?
