Hair Growth

I'm looking to find an answer to a question. The hair on the human head (and facial hair) will continue to grow unless it is cut. It will not stop growing.

Is there another animal whose hair will continue to grow without stopping unless it is cut?

Thank you for your time.

So many factors come into play when answering this question. No one can answer for sure what controls hair growth. It’s partially genetics, partially diet and then there are environmental factors i.e.(stress, basic‘ware and tear.’) But, it’s more so genetics that stands as the main controlling factor.

Genetics will limit the length to which an animals or a human being’s hair or hair coat will grow. Once it reaches its “optimal length” it simply ceases to grow farther, as animals and people are individuals, each will have it’s own “optimal length”. While it may seem like human hair will continually grow if not checked, this is not the case. There is an optimal length that humans can top out at, Yours might not be the same as mine, as there are some men who have beards or hair well past their waistlines and there are some who will never attain such a length (not matter how many years they go with out cutting it).. And then there are some men who naturally can’t grow a beard, and it’s nothing to do with alopecia.

Most all adult wild ( non-domesticated) animals reach their “optimal length” which can be any were from less than an ½ to over a foot depending on the species.

Human hair will not "continue to grow" as you put it, it has an optimal growth point, after which it reaches, growth stops.

Hi LC! I've been thinking about you guys, I really have. I've been fine, just very, very busy. I'm getting ready for my wildlife education programs for this coming summer, trying to get a part time at the local zoo ( competing with those young college interns) and then there’s my work at the vet clinic. I hate to post just to drop off the face of the earth again, so I’m trying to wait until things slow down a bit before I make my come back. That way I’ll be able to stay around a while.

Hey, EE, as long as you are OK!! Remember, topix is just a mb, a free time filler. Life is too important for it to be a spectator sport. Glad you're living it.

I guess we'll bump into each other her from time to time. Real life has me hopping through hoops, too. ;)
