Can someone tell me the origin of the term <bonobo>, one of the great apes? Is it, perhaps, the name of a researcher?

There are a few theories as the were the word first originated. One theory on the origin of the name "Bonobo" is that it is a misspelling of the name of the town of Bolobo on the Congo river. A more likely explanation is that it comes from the name for "Ancestor" in an ancient Bantu language. Some say the word isnít even African in origin.
It was first used in 1954 by an Edward Tratz.
