How to switch from a marketing career to a career studying animals?

I currently work in advertising in NYC and I hate it. I hate my clients, I hate the shallow people I work with and I hate being a part of a career that looks for ways to shove advertising down people's throats.
But I've always loved animals. So now I'm thinking about taking a drastic but much needed career shift. I'm not very interested in being a veterinarian, I don't think I have what it takes to perform surgery and potentially kill someone's pet. I would, however, love an opportunity that allows me to travel the world and study animals. I could be an assistant to Jeff Corwin or something! In all seriousness though, I want to do something important in this world, like prevent a species from going extinct or bringing awareness to an unknown animal.
I have no idea where to begin. Can anyone offer me advice?

Hi, so you want to work in conservation site right?
It might be a good idea for you to have a look at several organizations and to see whether there is job vacancy...
