I am in my senior year as an undergraduate. Part of my program requirement for graduation is to write a senior thesis. I am having a major mental block trying to think of a topic. I am mostly interested in severe psychological disorders (schizophrenia, etc). I am also a women's studies minor so I am greatly interested in women's issues as well (domestic violence, etc). Although I have set interests I can't seem to narrow down and come up with a thesis topic. I want to do something interesting and different. Help!!! Any suggestions would be great!!!

One of the most interesting areas in human services is anger management. While anger is not a pathological condition, it is a global problem which has been under researched.
You may visit the forum on this site for information about prominent anger management providers.

Hey Kelli,
I am in no way a psychology scholar yet; I am just a high school senior with ambitions for psych, but i have a suggestion. You might want to look into psychological disorders brought on by extreme cases of violence. i dont know if that helps or not... sorry.

Asking people on the internet for a research topic is an is an insult to yourself and the field. I have a suggestion for you, go into clinical because there you wont have to think much. The fact that you cant find a topic is a good indication that you havent put any thought into it as of yet, have little desire to make a personal innovation in the field that is of your own making, and that you are just doing your degree to get a job. You want to do something "interesting" and "different", and your asking other people!!! Heres my advice: 1) Question your motives for getting a psych degree 2) If you do persistently persue it, dont do it because its interesting, but because its potentially useful, and to make an epistimological contribution 3) Finally something perhaps more constructive; look at your own life, your own menial existence, and ask yourself..."What is it that 'I' want to know about myself?" In the words of Emmanuel Kant "nothing human is alien to me". Basically the answer is right in front of you so stop asking other people.

So what form of psychotherapy are you planning on pursuing...Ive recently been made aware that there are over 200 forms of 'psychotherapy'. What is advanced counseling? Youll have to be more specific if your looking for feedback. Furthermore looking for feedback is one thing, looking for ideas (if you ask me) is a form of indirect plagerism.

You are doing a masters degree and cannot create your own research topic?

Im going to be nice and make a suggestion...there are two ways you can go about doing this...1)You can look for gaps in the knowledge (i.e. The blurred line between spontaneous remission, placebo effects and various psychotherapies')or 2) you can do some introspection, ask yourself "what is strange about me, my thoughts, and my behaviors" "why do I do things" "How do I heal myself".

I understand your going into clinical, but thats no excuse for not taking the time to ponder your own idea...PASSIONATLEY

I think the outcomes of the Hawthorne studies need further investigation...

Propose a topic, then ask for feedback...

Hello Again SADIA!...Still looking for free ideas, well as long as you dont see it as compromising your integrity, then thats all that matters.

Perhaps you may want to investigate the cross-cultural limitations of western psychotherapy models, diagnosis, classification and treatment?
How is schizophrenia classified in Pakistan, are there different cultural values which may invalidate the western model? Perhaps a comparison of east and west models of counseling and psychotherapy? Is there a difference in the incidence of depression in Pakistan? Why might that be the case?

Anyway I only do that because I love the field so much, but if you cant come up with a thesis, when there is an infinite amount of topics, FOR A MASTERS DEGREE YET, well thats pretty pathetic. Im only a BA student.
