Did you read the article? They said the particle almost certainly exists. They didn't say they have seen it, or can prove it. The whole experiment kinda reminds me of a little story about the tower of Babel. Maybe this will be part two of races and cultures separated without the ability to communicate for trying to understand or get to something they are not meant to.

Too bad that the more than 65,000 posts between them are not enough havoc to wreak on the various serious conversations conducted in threads like this one. Talking about the weather = trolling!!? WOW! hope I never meet a seriously nasty troll at that rate LOL.. You need to lighten up a little... Here 'this' > "A Higgs boson walks into a church,[according to one joke which doing the rounds.] "We don't allow HIGGS BOSONS in here!" shouts the priest angrily. "But without me, you can have NO mass?" says the particle." lol

Well the "tower of Babel" kinda reminds me of a childishly naive fairy tale from the Land of Oz.

What a mixture, the offbeaters with the physics threaders. You know what I think? I think that humans have a terrible time comprehending the concept of infinity. Time or space, more- less, bigger- smaller doesn't matter. Some probably think they have found the smallest 'thing'. LOL Well, it has to be really tiny to be a component of an atom! Physics at this level of detail is kind of Offbeat. I can't really pretend to understand it ... I am glad that there people who can. I think it's important to encourage and reward them. Call it faith if you will ... but, I believe Higg's Bosons and the devices to study them are ultimately extensions of the fundamental physics and apparatus I used and enjoyed in High School. Infinities of time and space are hard to conceptualize, but if there's indeed a particle of God in our Universe ... it's probably floating around in that stuff.

I'm still trying to understand how they can say that they've discovered something they haven't actually discovered.

Considering the macro world, it truly is a point of perspective. Size is only relative to the observer. I suppose ignoring this fact is some sort of attempt at sensationalism, or maybe an obvious oversight that reflects the illusory nature of the human mind..

If there were, they ended when the Russkies popped their first nuke. The 1950's did produce, rather naively, predictions of a glittering wonderland of nuclear powered you-name-its. Easier said than done as it turned out. Maybe if they'd have done a little more research ... I wonder what technologies will eventually come from this Higgs discovery. I can think of several beneficial things that could happen, such as true artificial gravity for spaceships. Currently the only idea of artificial gravity involves spinning the ship to create the effect of gravity. But if people like that Manhattan Project crowd get their hands on the Higgs Particle, I shudder to think of what could happen.
