What the Gulf Disaster Could Tell Us About Sudden Global Warming

Jun 12, 2010 Full story: Science 12

Could the gushing BP well help explain an ancient climate mystery? Today, a crew of scientists are setting off for roughly 10 days to take measurements near the gushing well at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexicoa 'but they're not looking for oil.

It's about time.

Deniers, prepare to hear "clathrate" in common speech by common folk. This new awareness of gigantic greenhouse feedbacks in prehistory will finally make most of us aware of what's at stake; civilization, freedom, and the survival of thousands of species.

Dud, is it at all possible for you to see the world without looking through a political lens?

Norfie, is it possible for you to see the world as, at least in part a nice place to be, especially considering the alternatives?
You won't live long enough to wallow in the doom you preach, unless of course you've already chosen to live in that shadowy place.

Is that where you deniers find comfort? In thinking that nothing really, really bad will happen in our lifetimes? That it's only our grandchildren that will suffer through it, and not us?

I'm not so sure you're right.

Not being a denier, I wouldn't know.
neighbour wrote:

Who knows, it depends on what do you consider as bad?
neighbour wrote:

That's illogical thinking, there's no evidence that even our great grandchildren will suffer through anything.

Who's to say you are?

How much longer has the human race got left on planet Earth?
It isn't looking likely that there's only a short time left for it.
The end for it will arrive someday, the likelyhood is that it will be well understood what the cause will be when that time arrives, but AGW isn't it.
Running around like headless chickens never solves anything and that's what alarmists are doing, because they feel helpless and need a scapegoat, so they coose to call sceptics deniers and blame them for their own inadequacy.

And you call ME a doomsayer? Sorry, dude, but I'm not willing to just sit back and watch the house burn when I know we can still put out the fire.

Your little break didn't improve your reading skills.

My actual words were:
"It isn't looking likely that there's only a short time left for it."

Got that?

Don't be, "Sorry, dude," you have no need to apologise for your shortcomings.
Like I said before, call the fire brigade if your house is on fire, mine isn't.

so why do warmies always bring up Bush, call their enemies conservatives, and follow a failed politician as their hero? it IS political, the whole scam is political.

Americans are weird, they use political leanings as a weapon against each other.

As a Brit, can you imagine being called a conservative, liberal or socialist by your friends because of your thoughts on global issues?

As for Fat Al, there isn't a more famous failed politician, but he's doing very well selling his snake oil recipe to save the world.

Um, because Bush gutted environmental regulation and all his acolytes in that are conservatives, most of whom are now more rabid than ever in their celebration of Earth rape?

As for Gore, I'm glad that Earthling clarified your reference, because I couldn't care less about him except to greet him as a fellow concerned citizen. My heroes generally aren't in politics.

That covers any scientist with political leanings, such as Hansen and a few others.

Have you seen photos of burning the spill? That would make a great greenhouse gas experiment, they can distill out the most effective greenhouse gas, for an experimental addition of GHG to the air.
