Knowing MBARIs track record, they will probably run aground and cause another oil spill.

I am following all these new revelations about MBARI, and I have seen some video, and i was actually in shock and vomited. I think greenpeace may be involved in production, but I had NO idea these thigs were taking place behind the scenes. may god have mercy on Julie Packards soul.

I just want to thank a former employee of MBARI who was subjected to the most vile hostile work place, for being an environmentalist and long haired hippie, who turned over to G.P. evidencence in the form of video that shows some outrageos behavior that is going to surely shock the entire world. This unnamed individual is certainly going to be vidicated for the abuse he had to suffer in his "job" at the hands of petty tyrants.

They should get the AUV to go really fast then like drive it into the hole, and it would be all like plugged. We should also run all the cars and stuff on like wind power. It always blows at my house so I know I would like never run out of juice.

I honestly do not think that Julie Packard has a CLUE on what goes on with the current MBARI management. I think that they have lost sight of David Packards original vision, due to the fact that there could be two individuals at the institute that may have some motives not beneficial to MBARIs mission. That is really unfortunate, because overall MBARI is a fantastic institute, except for the two individuals that I will not name because I do not want to be sued. Two bad about N and S being there. God bless MBAR!!!!

I know that MBARI was under some kind of investigation about their research ship Western Flyer going aground in Mexico, but I never could figure out why in the world the CEO Marcia Nutmac(?spelling?)left for some crummy government job.

This story has caught my attention. FACT#!) The Former MBARI CEO you are refering to is Marcia Mcnutt(now head of USGS).

Fact #2)The R/V Western Flyer owned by MBARI went aground in Mexico, feb. 2008.

Fact #3) MBARI put out a story that the Flyer swerved for another ship, which is why it went aground.

http://www.mbari.org/news/news_releases/2008/...

Fact # 4)CEO McNutt left job at MBARI for government job.

Fact #5 ) Details of shipwreck in Mexico are CLASSIFIED by United States Coast Guard as being under Criminal Investigation.

Fact No.#6) I am currently traveling around the country interviewing former crewmembers from the shipwreck to find out the TRUTH. I have found some startling revelations, and I think there is a major story here that I will write about when the facts are all in.

I am looking forward to the documentary. I just wonder, is the monterey bay Aquarium SEPARATE from MBARI?? I mean the aquarium is just so awesome. I have to take all this stuff with a grain of salt. I can understand if there are a couple of bad appples tainting things, which can happen at any organization, but the monterey bay Aquarium is above reproach in my book. I guess MBARI is something separate.

the aquarium and MBARI are two separate entities and should not be confused.also MBARI should NOT be condemned for the bad actions of a few. MBARI has good intentions. However, if you see the movie the COVE, you may see similarities with a certain documentary coming out in august, that showcases a few questionable actions of an oceanographic research company residing in california. I have seen previews from the editing room, and I can not comment any further.

it is such a tragedy that the whole thread here is mostly hinges on some sort of corruption at MBARI. I know a lot of people that work at MBARI, and this thread should be talking about the great work that they are doing such as the AUV sent to the gulf. I wonder if ANYONE on the BOARD OF GOVERNORS has any CLUE what is REALLY going on with some of the managers at MBARI namely Marine Operations???? It is such a shame to see the whole institute soon maybe go up in flames due to a couple of bad apples. real shame.

WOW!! You are right!! I was checking out this story. So the ship "SWERVED" out in the middle of the ocean, where you can see for 12 miles, then went aground on rocks(OR WAS IT A CORAL REEF??)
So it was one of 5 reasons.

1) The Captain was an idiot
2)The Captain was asleep
3)The Captain lied and made up a big story
4) MBARI lied and made up a big story.
5) ALL THE ABOVE
