Very glad to hear this. Young people, you have to use math all your life in some form or other. Not necessarily algerba, but basic math. Keep up the good work. A huge Aloha from Northeast PA.

So what exactly is this supposed to mean ? Asians score the highest, Caucasians come next, then Hispanic and then your African Peoples...it is how it always will be, you can spend all the money you want and it won't change the way things are.If the scores spike a little, what does that mean..that people can breathe some "Collective Sigh"?..i don't think so...it means absolutely nothing. Education is a personal thing..if the culture/work ethic/and "history" isn't there..it's pointless. That is what Trade Schools are/were supposed to be for. Every kid 'can't get it" no matter how much money and political correctness one throws at the problem.

Well ... What is one to do about education, it is such a volatile issue and I agree that it is unfortunate that not everyone can succeed and go to college and we need to start being realistic about this fact now

Relatively speeking, Hawaii is still near the bottom. 32nd tied with 12 still means only 6 states faired worse. 40th tied with 5 means only 5 states faired worse. 37% of fourth graders perming at level and 25% of eighth graders performingming at level really means two thirds of fourth graders are not meeting standards, and three fourths of the eight graders are not meeting standards. Change the spin instead of saying we improved (most likely by tying with others) that we as a state still cannot make the top 40.

I am so proud of our students' achievements and their drastic improvements this past year. Instead of being abyssmally below the national average, they're just way below the national average. This year I promise to increase the...hey, it that the new issue of People magazine?

Good news! My daughter scored 420 on this math test. She is on the student council,a star AYSO player and a good role model for her classmates. Oh, and very humble! Parents need to spend time with them everyday and guide them! We can do this!

Here's hoping the DOE doesn't rest on the improvements and instead builds on progress. Wonder if furloughs will have a negative effect? We'll see in the next study...

Let the Governor and our legislators know that balancing the state budget on the backs of families whose children attend public schools is unacceptable. Call, e-mail and write to your elected officials now. What's more important than our childrens' education?

I think the building you want is across the street from the Capitol. Go to the BOE in the Liliuokalani Building.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Pisces

Family, friends and in-laws are all hard to please. It is better to please yourself for once, dear Pisces, than to bang your head against a wall. You need to relax and get in touch with your own feelings. Do not hesitate to speak up for someone you care about. Someone may try to curtail your freedom. Set them straight and do not give in.
