Warehouse One would be better used as a complex to support San Pedro's thriving art community, a haven for artiists throughout Los Angeles with working studios, galleries and a first rate museum, such is found at other great port cities.

If you want to bring back the fishing industry, build canneries on Terminal Island (which won't happen). If you want to bring back shipbuilding, build shipyards at the old Southwest Marine site and elsewhere (which won't happen). This will create jobs? Fat chance, maybe for a few academics from USC. I say let them frolic on Catalina and let their trustees pay for it. This does nothing for the port economy, or the environment. But it does give the bureaucrats at the port an excuse not to do something truly constructive.

How can this idea be merged with the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium? The SCRIPPS Institute and the Birch Aquarium in San Diego offer a good template to follow. Make it happen Geraldine!

This marine institute won't be at Warehouse 1. The report is on the Port of LA website. Scroll to the end of the report for photos and plans. http://www.portoflosangeles.org/pdf/cd1vision...
