My daughter received numerous invitations for this program this year. They make it seem like it is a special invitation and that someone nominated you, but that is not always the case. I did some research and found that there were numerous complaints about the program - safety and price (which they don't tell you until you go to the meeting & from what I found in my research, you could take your entire family on the trip for the price they are charging). Do your research before sending allowing your kids to even consider doing this!

What a wonderful program! I am a former student ambassador who was fortunate enough to go on two trips with People to People. One of the trips was this australia trip. I had the time of my life! The 40 memories made with the 39 other kids I traveled with are invaluable. The adult leaders truly became our "parents away from home" and made sure the trip was not only fun, but educationally rich. We were able to do and see things that a typical tourist would really not get the opportunity to do. Enjoy your trip!
And a piece of advice... keep a detailed journal everyday! I kept a journal, but at the age of 13, i thought I would remember much of what I saw and heard without writing down. Some of those memories have faded and I now regret it. Best of luck traveling with this wonderful organization!

The kids do have to be nominated by someone in the community, it can be a teacher, church leader, civic org, but they only let kids go that are high achievers. It's a wonderful program started in th 50's by Walt Disney, Eisenhauer & Hall the woman who started Hallmark cards. My daughter also fund raised, she manged to get 2000 to pay for her European trip.

My daughter, Abbey Rhodes, went with People to People to Italy/Greece. She had teachers from Dallastown go with her. She was very safe the whole 21 days she was gone. It is an awesome experince that is worth the money. They put you in very nice hotels and very educational tours. She went when she was going into 7th grade and is now in 10th grade and still talks about it. You will never get an experience like this, so do it. It is a little pricy but we did fundraisers and got half of the money so it was not so bad. If you need any advice get in touch with us. I'm very happy for you.

I am not belittling this girl! I just want people to realize that they need to do research on things BEFORE something terrible happens to their kids. I find it funny that the article states that this girl was the ONLY kid nominated from York-Adams & that is clearly not true. If you don't believe me, do a simple Google search & you'll quickly see what I mean.

I have known children who have traveled with People to People Student Ambassadors, and have only heard wonderful comments from the students and parents regarding the entire program.
Congratulations and enjoy your journey !!!

The way I read the story she was the only student from the Adams/Hanover area selected for THIS trip to Australia, with the rest of the kids going to Austrailia are from Lancaster and Berks county. There are other kids from this area involved in People to People, but they are going to other countries.
