Chinese wonder if animals can predict earthquakes
First, the water level in a pond inexplicably plunged. Then, thousands of toads appeared on streets in a nearby province.

I believe that the animals have special senses we human are weak in. It happened many times. We may consider to put the study of animals in a practical use to benefit to human beings.
I wonder the accessive taking the crude oils/petroleum from underground in the Middle East causing the shifting of inner earth possibly has anything to do with this earthquake. I heard that this earthquake was very deep (3 miles underground?) and the ground moves like waves instead of split zizag like the previous earthquakes in California and Taiwan. There will be more earthquakes in this century. I hope the scientists can have more breakthrough researches in this field. |

Actually, scientists have highlighted the value of traditional and/or cultural knowledge. As they investigated the Tsunamis that hit Thailand and compared it with those past, they realized that the stories and ways of knowing passed down through generations prior were more useful than relying on technology. It is, needless to say, an ongoing study and pursuit of knowledge.
Modernity has its rewards but also contains significant deficits. Interesting how stories like these appear and reappear. Perhaps, it illuminates how much instinctual perception we lack and how disconnected we are from the world we live in:-) |
