Looks like the walls of the fracture to Puu Oo are beginning to close as a result of crystallisation onto the walls.

Lava onto the Pali rather than in the tube system looks like another symptom of the same gradual crystallisation induced closure.

As magma is still being supplied from the main chamber the result is a gradual rise in the lava lake at Halamaumau.

The supply of new magma is probably more tricky. It may be coming from a conduit to the base of the main sub caldera magma chamber (most likely), or instead be a result of a gradual pinch squeeze from neighbouring Mauna Loa (likely the cause of the long eruption gap following the formation of the last Hawaiian caldera,{unlikely}).

In absence of a further creep induced fracture event in the next year, it is likely that Puu Oo will gradually shut down, and lava overflows onto the floor of Halemaumau main crater would take place.

Have a nice day: Ag
