Earthquake felt in northern Indiana

A moderate earthquake shook many residents in their beds this morning in northeastern Indiana.

why does this little story not tell the size of the quake other than moderate - we like to know - was it a 4 or 2 or 7 - are there any pictures of damage

Hi..We live on the South side in Fort Wayne, In. by Fairfield School. My husband was about ready to walk out the door for work and everything started to shake. The blinds were moving, I had hangers hanging on a door knob and they were swaying back and forth, the fridge was even vibrating. I have several parrots and they all started swaking and fluttering wildly in their cages. My husband and I had no clue as to what was happening. Maybe a plane or large truck had passed byt..I am from Calif. and have been in minor quakes but, had no clue it would ever happen here.

i felt the earthquake this morning while lying in bed. i thot the washer was on but i didn't have any laundry to do. ha. it shook for a good 5 mins. I also thot it was a train going by as we live in a mobile home and it shakes easy. (we also had an earthquake felt here in Van Wert in the early 80's.)

i'm from Van Wert, not Bluffton..

[WE FELT THE EARTHQUAKE]

We woke up about 5:30am to our whole house shaking. Lights and dishes, and our bed rattling like crazy. We knew it was something severe and not just 'n strong wind. We were not sure what it was. We noticed that our big armoirs were rattling against the floor and the walls. We ran to the downstairs areas and our family members there also felt it and their beds were shaking too. It lasted about 2 - 3 minutes. It was pretty intense. We rang the firestation to ask whether they had any reports of a earthquake which they confirmed that they felt it and many others had already called.

We live in South West, Fort Wayne off Liberty Mills.

Dear Greg,
On the 6:00am news you stated the the earthquake came from New Salem,Illinois.However,other news casts are stated it originated from West Salem,Illinois.Could you tell me which town it came from,because they are 2 different towns.I'm originally from Pittsfield,Illinois which is only a few miles from New Salem,Ill. West Salem,Ill.is in southern Illinois.Where as New Salem is about 30 miles south west of Jacksonville,Ill.I'm curious because I have several relatives in the New Salem area.Thank you!

Sorry about the last post. Wasn't paying attention and filled out the wrong thing.I guess I wasn't quite awake as I thought,lol!! I heard some things rattling and my cats came running thru the house, so I figured they had been into something and that's what caused all the comotion.

I did not feel the earthquake, but my wife received several calls from all her friends shortly after it happened. Those calls, waking me out of my sleep, were worse than earthquake!:-)

Thought I was dreaming of an experience from 82 while living in Mexico city...realized it was happening right here. No damage, but my parrot was scared enough to fly off of his cage and hide in the entertainment center. It scared the poop right out of him!

I live in North Manchester, IN close to Manchester College. I woke up this morning because my bed was moving. I though that maybe one of my dogs had gotten out of the room they are kept in at night and was shaking my bed so I go up to look under it. Of course, it wasn't a dog as I just saw the news at 7:55 AM and herd about the earthquake. It was a surprise to hear of an earthquake. Christy

my wife and I were awake at 5:37am and heard items rattle on our dresser,along with items in the hutch.I thought that some one was in the house, so I yelled, "whats going on?" and turned the lights on,
The rattling had stopped,and no one was there.
It was really eerie!

Our 9 year old daughter had been up several times throughout the night having bad dreams and not being able to sleep. So when she came into our room early this morning once again, and told us that her whole room was shaking, we told her she was dreaming and to go back to bed. Much to our surprise this morning when we turned on the news, we heard about the earthquake. Needless to say, we had to apologize to her!

We were awoke by are bed shaking back and forth and the windows rattling upstairs. After we had heard what happend and where, I called my best friend in Vincennes (my home town) and he had said that it lasted for awhile and he was shaken off his couch ,were he fell asleep last night. I recall as a child living in Knox county feeling many small tremmors, but now living in Wabash to feel an earthquake from close to my home town is remakable.
