WOW that's horrible! Sounds like something similar like that can happen to South Philadelphia. It started off as one crack only and within 2 months it's a curb to curb and about 1 feet wide ditch/hole.

Since it's right in front of the gym - fitness works, there are a lot of traffic passing by it everyday. I've been trying avoid driving on that hole if possible..or actually the block. I am afraid a hazardous condition like the one mentioned in this one just might gobble up the block because more cracks had formed a few feet to the right and left of it.

I wonder just when the "City of Philadelphia" would address this issue before that happens. I know people have filed complaint about it... What do you guys think?

I know exactly what the 1st commenter is referring to. I've noticed the cave-in on that street as well and it has definitely been gradually growing. To hear that the Texas sinkhole had started with a mere crack and has grown to such a massive sinkhole makes this South Philly problem seem like it's no small issue. I'm not sure if it has been addressed yet, but something should be done soon.

The government should do something about the sink hole because it will be a big issue we need to face later. I do not know what we are waiting for.

And just what would you suggest the government "do about it?"
