Its nice that the U.S. Geological Survey is using a Canadian company to do these flights for them. Guess there is a shortage of U.S. planes.

Nice of them to tell us AFTER this plane scared the h--l out of us yesterday. We live on a ridge and are often buzzed by local pilots who have no regard for the safety or privacy of us on the ground. The bureaucrats in charge of this local mission have the same disregard the White House had for New York residents on the recent debacle of flying Air Force One close to the skyscrpaers without telling the City what was happening. Yet more evidence of the arrogance of government toward citizens.

I am just glad to see the Pizza Hut advertisements on the UDJ pages. Anyone know where the Pizza Hut is?

The expertise and equipment is in Canada. We just don't do it all that much in the US whereas they do it all the time. The Canadians use plenty of our human and equipment resource in return.

Yeah-Right,

Kind of like the news release about low flying helicopters that were alleged to be contracted by PG&E to check power lines. Then the helicopter had a guy sitting in the door with a M-16 while the chopper was flying over areas where there was no power lines....

"The survey will cover the cities of Ukiah, Fort Bragg, Willits, and numerous other towns in the area with the purpose of collecting and recording geologic measurements. "

numerous other towns... and they are? This story is incomplete. At least put in an * with the names at the end of the article.

It is a large grid. Just email the USGS and ask for infomation on the survey and the grid size. It is just aeromag and/or gravity. People need to chill out.

Could you be so kind as to tell us what type of aircraft we should be looking for, so we don't confuse it with a military invasion by the New World Order?

You don't need to fly to do that. Heck... you can use Google Earth for that. High resolution, multispectral images are far cheaper than flying.

"were <sic> not stupid" A problem with being stupid is that you aren't smart enough to assess that.
