Hi guys,

Working on evolution from a non-biological perspective, I am quite interested in the genetic approach & I'm wondering if any labs exist that perform (sort of) following research (please excuse my lack of bio background knowledge if I ask something stupid...)-

Environmental stress can induce certain types of mutations in the genotype that result in a changed phenotype (thereby being able to adapt to changing environmental conditions). While this probably only occurs in a few individuals of a larger community of a species, I assume that if one consistent mutation occurs long & often enough, this can lead to an 'evolutionary' change in the species. Phylogenetically closely-related (simple) species do not differ THAT much in terms of their genotype.
Now my question is, are there any labs that study the effects of lab-induced & specific environmental pressure (eg insolation, pO2, salinity, temperature etc etc) on changes in the genotype of two (or more) closely related model species to try to infer the effect of specific environmental factors on evolutionary change, thereby being able to possibly link it to the geological record??

Thanks in advance for any comments!
