A summary from the piece: Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases contribute to global warming and ocean acidification. Under the Kyoto protocol the Government[UK] committed to reducing levels by 12.5% below 1990 levels by 2012. The Climate Change Act 2008[UK] sets out a reduction of at least 34% in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 and at least 80% by 2050, against the 1990 baseline.
