We had uncountable amounts of cicadas starting Saturday. They were on the house and solid on small trees and shrubs.

At least UVA employees have something to feed their family with! Dip them in ranch dressing, it's better than 1,000 island!

My windshield got absolutely covered driving into a swarm of them Saturday morning on 64 in Waynesboro. Never seen anything like it.
They're in my yard in cville as well.

Pets, and some people (!) eat them! And, from the last time I went through this, when I lived in the city, they can cover the sidewalk and really mess things up!

But, I agree, they are kind of neat!

Use caution... I remember when they were out last time, 17 years ago, people were eating big plates of them. I heard of one fellow who nearly died in the DC area because it turned out he was deathly allergic to them. I don't remember what paper or news outlet the report was in, but I'm sure Google would turn it up.
