Chiggers: How Long Can They Live On Backpack?

If you go hiking and get bitten by chiggers and they lay eggs in your gear ( boots, bacpack, etc) can your gear stay infested and more chiggers hatch? How long can they live on the gear? Some might say why not just wash all of your gear, but what if you missed a piece of gear? Or getting in out of you car? Can the hatch on the sests or in the carpet. Basically we need to know if the lavae can hatch after a long period of time like fea lavae ca do. Fea lavae can live up to a full year or more and then hatch when they are disturbed.

Thanks in advanced for any insight on this!
