I've just spotted a grey low profile web like cocoon on the skin of a Banana purchased today.
In Sheffield, Yorkshire.
I am just photographing it for future reference.
Does any one know how I may be able to identify this insect/bug/spider cocoon.
Where can I post an image to help with this.
It's about 21mm x 14mm by 4mm high and limpit like in appearence. The membrain is slightly see through
and light grey.

Hello there,
I am from Germany and just found a similar thing on my banana.

It looks like a cocoon, too and something black is in there. I dont want to open the cocoon (yet) so I cant see exactly whats in there.

Also the membrane is slightly see trough.

But I have no Idea, what it could be.

I am searching via google and found this site here...

Maybe someone knows, what it is

I had a similar cocoon-like thing on a banana awhile back, and tapped into this forum. I kind of freaked out when I saw it, and threw it outside. Then my curiosity got the best of me. I retrieved it, opened it and inside was what looked like the "skin" of an insect that had been shed. It didn't look like a spider, and it was definitely empty. I was an entomology major in college many years ago, and believe it was probably a moth or something similar. However, with so many people experiencing this it is very weird, and definitely freaky! Entomologists out there, can you help?!?

I'm in Canada and just found the same thing, little grey cocoon, and when I looked at it in the light there was a little tube-shaped amber-coloured and ringed thing inside. I'm pretty sure it was dead but I torched it and put it outside in the snow and I will definitely not be eating that banana.

I found this same type of cocoon on a banana this morning(Northern WI) took it to the garbage & pulled garbage bin outside where it's 20 degrees...hoping it freezes! I can't seem to find an online image and freaked out when I read about banana spiders--still hoping it was just a moth.

I'm in Germany and there some cucoon on the side of my banana. I deathly afraid of it being a banana spider but my mom said its a moth cucoon, so I don't think it's something to be nervous about.( we threw it out too)

Im in virginia, usa. Found cacoon on the outside of my banana bunch. they were kinda strung together like in a web but it looked more like hair. They are all a tan color, there were about 5 caccoons all strung together and kinda transparent ad other have said. Looking online ive come to this post. But i too just purchased mine from wal-mart. Maybe we should see where they purchase them and if they have had anyone report it to the store. Its worth a shot! These are deff empty though. One kinda looks like it might have had an eye and enteni that got cut off of whatever came out. Yikes!
