Adapted from one of my previous posts.

As they are from different era's, we must set the scene.

We'll have no deep snow for the Mammoth and no trees or bushes for T. Rex to lurk behind.
As they don't know each other we shall assume T. Rex is fully aware that the Mammoth, standing in a large clearing tugging at turfs of grass with its trunk, is meat, and plenty of it.
Likewise as T. Rex approaches, the Mammoth is smart enough to know that here comes a threat, and not some passing traveller coming to ask the way to the Cretaceous period.

Depiction: part one.

From a distance a Tyrannosaurus Rex set his sight upon his next meal, a lone bull Mammoth.
He paused and raised his head, he is up wind and can smell the scent of his prey.
Altering his course he approaches cautiously from the rear.

As he draws near, the Mammoth, continues quietly feeding.
This giant of mammals feared no predator, but will not suffer interlopers near at hand.

Within eleven or twelve meters, the Tyrannosaurus, calculating his attack, begIns his run.
But as he gathered speed, the colossal beast turned to face him, with raised trunk, bellowing out a tremendous trumpet blast.
The predator checked his run and halted, and began to side step, reassessing the situation.

As he did, the gargantuan began rocking from left to right, majestically brandishing massive curled tusks that glimmered in the bright sunlight.
Over nine meters in length, and at least a meter taller, he dwarfed the meat eater.

As the predator continued his furtive side stepping the Mammoth turned also, and once again a terrifying trumpet blast shook the air.
The Tyrannosaurus raised his head and from gaping teeth filled jaws, roared out a defiant reply.
But the Mammoth seemed to pay no heed.
Abruptly ten tons of bone, muscle and flesh, charged, shaking the ground.

The intruder, with agility backed off a meter or so in surprise, but then stood his ground, and in a heatbeat, the behemoth stopped short.
The lone bull had tested his adversary, and now only turned his head to watch as his apponant once more continued his side stepping, looking for an advantage.

The Mammoth had guile, and was now inviting an attack... and it came...

The predator, darted forward, attempting to leap at the flank of his victim. But the massive, swiftly turned, swinging his mighty tusks into the head of his apponant.
The T.Rex, his momentum instantly checked as by an immovable object, crashed to the ground, in a cloud of dust.

The great behemoth pacifly watched as the T.Rex struggled to his feet.
He was stunned, and the side of his head streamed with blood, his left eye blinded by the flow.
He shook his head and roared at his nausea. Instinct alone drove him forward.

The Mammoth lowered his head and met the charging T.Rex head on, and in the same instant he reared up, towering above the bewilded attacker.
The T.Rex escaped the desending giant by centimeters.
But once again with a turn of his head those mighty tusks flung him rolling into the dust...

Part two:

Once more the Tyrannosaurus Rex, struggled to regain his feet. He felt agonizing pain down his left side where again, his massive apponent had struck. He was dazed, and shock was momentarily stunning his reactions.
The bull Mammoth sensed his weakened state and was already charging towards him at full speed.

The predator shook himself and roared defiantly, instinct alone firing his muscles.
He stepped aside as the Mammoth came up, and closed his jaws upon the left tusk.
Momentum and power shattered it, with a loud snap, as the bull charged by.

The T.Rex spent a moment shaking his prize, before casting it down, as he did so, the Mammoth had turned.
Seconds ebbed as the two adversaries faced each other.
The Mammoth passed his trunk over his smashed meter long tusk, and felt its jagged point.

The T.Rex moved forward. Keeping his good eye fixed upon the huge remaining tusk, he lunged.
The Mammoth reared up once more, eyes white with rage and trunk held high.
The predator thought he saw his chance and went for the exposed throat.

As the behemoth came crashing down he turned his head, and the stunted fractured tusk sank into the predators neck.
In the next moment his forelegs trampled upon the gurgling body of the T. Rex, smashing his thigh and rib cage.

The mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex, writhed a little, then lay still.

In a mist of steaming blood the bull Mammoth worried his victim, with his remaining tusk.
Then passing his trunk gently over the body in a last salute, he turned away.

That is a possibility, but against a bull Mammoth, certainly not conclusive.
