The size difference between the largest lions and tigers on average is negligible at best, neither can knock out one another with one paw swipe. But it is the lion who has the that huge mane and more fighting experience to its advantage.
I've also read the lion has bigger lungs cavity thus housing more oxygen for stamina, its generally more aggressive too which would put him on the offense more.
60/40 to the lion.

@Bonecrusher,
Lion's mane serves as very minor defence.

We are speaking of siberian tigers, not bengal, so drop it.

How the hell does the tiger have better senses, they are basically the same.
Since the tiger is a solitary animal unlike the lion, coupled by the fact that it lives in more forested areas compared to the lion, it must have better senses in order to track down its prey.

Thats not actually true. In fact, I can argue the lion had a better sense of smell due to its longer nose. Neither has been proven to have better senses anyways so they are probably roughly the same.

Tiger wins.

It's a little bit bigger, has that extra fur to protect it a little bit more, and, from what I've read, is more muscular.

And of course, the mane being for defence is total BS.

Nobody says it gives horses an advantage...

Size in THIS battle does not matter, fur? Geez their THE SAME, MUSCULAR?! Their the SAME! Also, it's not BS it's a good display of warning.

Yes,it's a display to scare off competitor but his point is,it's not for defense.

A bushy mane could potentially soften the blows and serve as a distraction for any kind of throat bite.

Driving a knife into a hairy tomato would have pretty much the same effect as a hairless one..-_-...That was disgusting...

Thats a little different actually... you see the tiger has to crush the lion's throat in order to kill it. However, because of the mane, the lion's throat seems so massive and is also lower than where it actually is. if the tiger tries to bite where it guesses the throat is, all it gets is a mouthful of fur and that is enough time for the lion to make a killing blow.

Tigers aren't arithmetics and neither are lions.
Both would go for somewhere along the throat, and a slice to that somewhere is bad enough.
Besides, even tigers have a, albeit shorter, mane. So that's poof.

lion tiger are know to directly crush other lion/ tiger's cranium in the wild, rarely go directly for the windpipe unless the enemy is already have beaten badly. windpipe is a killing move, but only apply when the fight is almost over.

The tiger is most likely to wil, 60/40. Not ONLY is it larger, it's also faster, more muscular, larger bite force and more agile. Siberian tiger wins 60/40.
