The distant roll of thunder gave way to the sounds of a furious struggle that resounded across the cycad grove. An old bull Torvosaurus, locked in combat, was finding it an effort to keep pace with a younger male.
It was late afternoon, the air was thick and humid, and the glaring Jurrassic sun was being veiled by gathering storm clouds.
Gnarled with scars, the patriarch had defended his position for twenty years, but now he was weakening.
The rythmic pounding of the rain, approaching through the forest grew louder, as the old bull, slowed by fatigue, hesitated.
The young male saw his chance and lunged, butting the weary defender in the shoulder.
He went down, rolling in the warm sandy soil, and for the first time in his mature life he sensed defeat.
Under the watchful eye of his tormentor, and now drained of power, he struggled to his feet, and turned away from the fight.
The new champion stood in the gathering dusk and on-coming downpour, and bellowed a triumphant roar.
As he turned to go a distant more guttural roar exploded over the drumming of the heavy rain.

The Torvosaurus looked out, across the now gloomy cycad grove, as a colossal silhouette emerged from the forest beyond.
The tropical storm prevailed, the breeze gave into a blustering wind, that swirled the rain and the spiny cycad leaves, and lashed at the conifer branches.
Suddenly a double flash of lightening crackled across the clouded sky, illuminating the grove, and the sweeping forest that encircled it. In those seconds the Torvasuarus glimpsed his arch-enemy, and in the ground trembling thunder that followed, an Allosaurus advanced further towards him.
In an irony, this young near full grown male had recently lost his challenge for supremecy, and was seeking his own new territory.
The Torvosaurus roared out a challenge as he made his way towards the intruder.
They met, the storm at its peak, the rain glistening on their bodies as another lightening bolt briefly dispelled the shadows.
The Allosaurus, three meters in height and over twelve meters long, was the more powerful, but the Torvosaurus had just won this territory and was determined to defend it..

The thunder shook the ground, undaunted the two predators circled each other. Suddenly the Allosaurus attacked aiming for the neck with huge gaping jaws. But the Torvosaurus, turned aside, and the attacker snapped nothing but the air.
In a quick recovery the Allosaurus turned and lashed his tail, the base of which smashed into the Torvosaurus chest. The blow sent him sprawling into the surrounding bushes, and before he could get to his feet his arch-enemy was upon him. One massive clawed foot on his belly and those gaping jaws poised once more for his naked throat. In a moment, it would be all over.
Suddenly something loomed from the shadows, the old bull, head down, plowed into the unsuspecting Allosaurus. They both rolled to the ground embroiled in vicious combat, snarling and grunting, but the Allosaurus was first upon his feet.
As the old bull commenced to rise, a hunk of flesh was torn from his throat, and his body convulsed then lay still. The Allosaurus raised his head to roar out his victory, but it never came.
Insensed by the kill coupled with his inexperiance he had forgotten his first assailant, who now sank his teeth, deep into his uplifted throat.
The battle was won, the old patriarch and the new, against a formidable enemy.

Dramatic story, I like it.
