Ok, i know i'm kinda late guys (only just watched the series today) but i wanted to shout my thoughts on this series.

The negatives- The CGI is what put me off at first, it is undoubtably a bit rusty and the use of CGI environments as well as Dinosaurs was a bad move in my opinion. The realism of "WWD" was missing, it looked more like a game than a realistic dinosaur documentary. I guess this was a way of cutting costs, something i thought the BBC was above doing (they aren't usually one to be cheap). Also the sound effects and camera motions were bad in my opinion, the screen was always shaking and unstable and it was annoying me pretty badly. For a doco made in 2011, WWD (1999) looks light years better.

Also, this doco suffers from the same repetitive nature that many modern dino doco's posses. The focus is always on hunting and killing, with predatory dinosaurs getting a biased focus in this series (don't get me wrong, Theropods are my fav, but it seems too over the top). What happened to the calm and realistic shots of WWD, with hunting and killing only being part of the story?

The positives- The dinosaurs featured were all quite new, not often seen in other dino docos. This was great, i loved seeing a different cast of characters as opposed to the usual stars. There was also a whole episode dedicated to Cretaceous North Africa, a place that i am fascinated with and just love. Seeing Carcharodontosaurus portrayed with a major role was awesome too (my fav dino btw).

The fossil evidence that backs up what is shown on screen is also a huge plus, i found it interesting and informative, although sometimes it was a bit intrusive in my opinion. It prevented a better developed story from occurring.

Overall i am satisfied with the scientific content of this series, but think it's appearance is a major flaw. The CGI left me with a headache, but the info was great nonetheless.

Like Aligators and Crocs, I wonder if a lot of these large reptiles spend a lot of time in the take the weight off of their joints...

Maybe the T rex was just at home in the water as a Croc is...

The series was great, despite the bad CGI it features tons of new dinosaurs and new info with most of the very recent studies and finds, I hate hearing stuff all over again from a documentary, Planet Dinosaur was what I was looking for. The information are also explained pretty detailed and easy to understand, we are also presented with evidence and reason so I think it's a good documentary for both beginners and professionals, not something that you see everyday. While I agree WWD has better CGI, it gives information without evidence and reasons, Planet Dinosaur achieves that with blowing colors. So if you want a good depiction of the dinosaurs go for WWD but if you're in for the information, Planet Dinosaur is the way to go.
