has anybody found out if the old Beale Cipher has been decrypted or debunked? supposedly there is a treasure trove if it's unraveled.

There's a good argument for why it's a likely hoax on the Wiki page.

where can i go to read more about what each individual attempted to decrypt the cipher? I'm not saying i'm going to crack it, I'm just wondering where a good starting point would be as opposed to wasting my time repeating previously failed attempts. Any information would be nice. AND if you have any leads on a program that can count words and letters of words from an ordinary word, pdf, or other text document would be very helpful as well. I read what the wiki had to say, I'm just not quite ready to put something so juicy to bed quite yet.
