This article sounds like "somebody" is trying to justify keeping an overpaid position at the High School.

I think offering scholarships is a great incentive for students to try just a bit harder, reach just a little further, they are available if they're interested. The one thing that bothers me about this article is that it states for minority students. Unless I'm misunderstanding or reading this incorrectly, I find this unfair. Any student willing to work hard towards a goal, even to better themselves, should be able to try for a scholarship, this shouldn't just be for minorities.

I saw Gov. Martinez' speech the other day, and one thing she'd like to change is not letting students go onto the next grade unless they qualify to do so. This "no child left behind" needs to go. I can usually tell on this Forum how many young people participate in discussions and it shocks me how they can't even spell the simplest of words. If these people are adults, and not kids, that's even worse. Scholarships are a great incentive, if we have the kids willing to work for them, but all kids, not just minorities.

"I Understand" I totally agree with you on your last post. Everyone should be targeted as needy when it comes to money to attend college. Everyone at the school (student's and staff) see that the person hired to "assist" with scholarship questions has a targeted group of students who receive special treatment. I just can't believe that money would be spent to hire a person to "assist" with scholarship and college applications. At least one more teacher could be hired with that salary.
