When work makes you sick.
For Patty Mulcahy, it began with itchy eyes. They started to water two years ago, when renovation began on the midtown office building where she was working as an assistant at a television network.

For a story about when a moldy office killed a Nevada Health Inspector, visit www.schoolmoldhelp.org . Moldy, damp offices and workplaces are more common than not, according to authorities. Occupational asthma is what you get from them, but it is not all. The mold in these buildings can poison and colonize you ... something most people don't realize.

This statement in the article is completely wrong: " In other words, an allergy can kill, while a sensitivity just makes you miserable. "
The word "sensitivity" makes it sound like these negative health effects are merely inconvenient. Seizures, heart palpitations, legs giving out from underneath you, motor control problems while say using a knife to cut your vegetables for dinner... are among many other negative health effects that can be completely disabling, not merely inconvenient and miserable. For a good report on the situation, see the Canadian Human Rights Commission website: http://www.chrc-ccdp.ca/research_program_rech... Symptoms list can be found at: http://www.chrc-ccdp.ca/research_program_rech... |
