Should evolution be taught in high school?

There are 179628 comments on the www.scientificblogging.com story from Feb 24, 2008, titled Should evolution be taught in high school?. In it, www.scientificblogging.com reports that:

Microbiologist Carl Woese is well known as an iconoclast. At 79 years of age, Woese is still shaking things up. Most recently, he stated in an interview with Wired that...

"My feeling is that evolution shouldn't be taught at the lower grades. You don't teach quantum mechanics in the grade schools. One has to be quite educated to work with these concepts; what they pass on as evolution in high schools is nothing but repetitious tripe that teachers don't understand."

There is no fine tuning. That's a creationist assertion.

Bottom line: We have more to fear from unicorn attacks than of the religious notion of "fine tuning".

No, you said I "dismiss it". You know that is not true. I may have a different/better interpretation of it, but I certainly don't dismiss it. Let's try to keep our facts right shall we?

You dismiss the standard interpretations that is based on countless experiments by countless real scientists in nearly countless fields of science.

Yea, you dismiss it.

The universe and our solar system and earth are finely tuned for life. How can you deny something that is so barefaced obvious?

Because it is not true and obvious only to those brainwashed to believe it.

AS I said...
"The argument from imperfection suggests that if the Universe were designed to be fine-tuned for life, it should be the best one possible and that evidence suggests that it is not. In fact, most of the Universe is highly hostile to life."

In what respect? It wouldn't change my view of the age of the universe or whether macroevolution occurred.

That there is an ocean on Europa is not a hypothesis since we know it has a hot core and is nearly solid water.
It is only a hypothesis unless you think the wiki article is incorrect and you have evidence stating otherwise.

I'm rubber and your glue,...

At least I agree with millions of highly educated scientists, from all over the world, from a plethora of scientific fields, from all major religions.

You get a handful of scientists who are making religious claims that have little to nothing to do with their scientific training.

Macroevolution does occur. We demonstrated that at some length just last week.

The other wiki article I did give a link to listed it as a fact.

At any rate there is evidence.

Enceladus is probably a better example since we have observed the liquid water there.
We have not observed liquid water there. Why are you so wreckless and irresponsible with your statements?

Evolution should not be "taught" in high-school... It should be practiced! have you seen some of the whack jobs in high schools?! If they are our future... we all need to help evolution speed up a bit! I say this all with the ut-most sarcasim as possible. I believe that God made us and that he used some basic rules to do this. We humans have used our gift of a brain to observe that patterns of change in not just humans but other species and have come up with the term "evolution" to describe this process of change in life over time. So if you believe in a Higher Being that created us humans out of the ether, great! teach your children how you believe things to be. But also teach them to be respectful of other peoples beliefs.
So finally my opinion on the topic of whether evolution should be taught at the highschool level... No it should be taught at the College level period. I agree that in the grade school and High school levels of education the foundations should be focused on.
