Remember those guys from when we were in Rome a couple of years ago.

They heckle the tourists in front of the coliseum saying "foto, foto, foto", and then for those who snap a shot, they then demand exorbitant fees for the service. Kinda gansta...

Nice costumes though...

Yeah, we heard from others while we were at the Coliseum that they wanted 5-10 euros, but that's second hand info.
Agree with you that these guys like anyone are trying to scratch out a living.
A bit aggressive maybe, but at the end of it, just trying to get by.

Will say though that Rome was the be all end all for us.
Beautiful, friendly and totally safe (pickpockets notwithstanding).

No, those were the male hustlers who ply their trade around the Coliseum.

The other poster is describing the gladiator wannabes.

No harm in dressing the part for tourists photos. Not that I can see,.. everyone knows the word "no". Perhaps there is a perceived slight from the tax & license departments because they can't share in the proceeds.

yeah thats a lot for just a picture, but they play with ur wants and emotions at the time. not much different than years ago when we would get the kids picture professionally taken and they would come up with this crazy price for the package. they figure they got u. i wanted one of my D and it was so cute but the picture was hugh and we just couldnt afford it, the other package had the same picture but much smaller so we took that. turned out to be the best choice anyway because to this day its still sitting next to my bed. but man, it hurt to let that one go..
:/
