This major exhibition will showcase the treasures of Aegae, the royal capital of the kingdom of Macedonia. More than 500 extraordinary new discoveries from the royal tombs of Aegae will be on display for the very first time at the Ashmolean.

Ancient Greek city states had many forms of government.

Among others Athens was a democracy, Sparta a kingdom, etc...

You are just a pathetic Slav desparately trying to justify the lies you were brought up with, it's easier for you to try to twist the facts instead of facing the truth...

ALL WRONG
A group of hellenic city states subjected to conquest by a foreign Macedonian Kingdom...the end of democracy in Gaylada until the 1970's...when your dictatorships ran out...
30 years of recent democracy...really you only have 10 years or so on us in this game...
And you still havent got the hang of it...
Democracy includes minority rights...

You dont have the capacity in yoou tiny brain to even dis me correctly...

The Macedonian experience is much like the experiences and themes represented in those movies i make reference to...in order to make a point...

I can use other references but in order to communicate and get the message across i choose to use something people have been exposed to in order to gain understanding...

I am not trying to convince YOU...i am expressing towards the wider audience so as to EXPOSE you...

and by the way its BattleSTAR Galactica...not BattleSHIP...

I was brought up CANADIAN...with CANADIAN values...

Your answer does not coincide with the statements in the exhibition...Age of Democracy is what i have a problem with...it should be removed from the description of the exhibition as only one city state practiced it...and the Macedonian empire DID NOT...
regardless if its Greek or Macedonian...

Get it?

Stop playing with your Star Wars action figures, and open up a goddamn book for once in your sorry ass existence! The name of the exhibition is “Heracles to Alexander the Great: Treasures from the Royal Capital of Macedonia,**A HELLENIC KINGDOM** in the Age of Democracy”

Did you fail all your history classes in high school and college up there in Canada? In another post you stated that you had a child or children. If you don't mind my asking, what on earth do you tell them when they come running home crying after a history lesson? That the "big bad Greeks" bribed their teacher???

Get a grip on reality clown! Rediscover your Bulgarian roots, embrace them, and move on with your life. Believe me, your child/children will thank you down the road!

Overcharcoal forgets that Democracy was purely an Athenian thing. The Spartans did not practice democracy nor did many other Greek City States.

There is no shame in being a Macedonian in Canada...

My kids know that and are wise enough to face the bigotry and racism that the greek establishment has planted here in Canada...

Canada's rich deposit of multicultural wealth has them living their lives in a tolerant society which promotes cross cultural learning opportunities and knowledge.

The Greek community in Toronto and around the world is so inward looking and ethnocentric that it fails to see beyond its big fat nose...

My kids will be a lot more receptive to reality as they interact with the wider audience...

The Greeks that i know insulate their kids from this (keeping their kids in greek school, greek soccer teams, and only going to greek events) and are being denied the privlege of membership in the richness of the other cultures that are around us...

Insulating children from the quest for knowledge outside of the 3 ring circus of your own ethnicity will only hamper them when they try to make their way in this competetive world...

Open minds, open hearts, open ideas...an exploration and enjoyment of all that the world has to offer is what my kids are being taught...

The old establishment is obsolete given the rate of change out there...

That is what my kids are being taught...explore, learn and appreciate who you are in context of the wider landscape...

So keep to your ethnocentric and insular views...it will get you no where with the outside world...

Once again you have failed to answer my question. What do you tell your children when they are taught in the Canadian school system that the Macedonians were Greeks? Do you tell them that it's a Greek conspiracy, and that the Canadian government is in cohoots with the Greek government?

He just tells his kids that the big bad Greeks have the Canadian education department on the payroll.

That, I would assume, would be the most convenient way of deflecting a thorny question, like this.

The Canadian educational system from my exposure to it gets it right and recognizes the Macedonian people, culture and ethnicity...

Actually, we had an elementary school teacher(of greek background) get disciplined(fired) for telling the children that they couldnt identify as Macedonians during a cultural exchange festival at the school...it was dealt with swiftly...according to the codes of discipline and conduct within the educational system...

Zero tollerance policy for racism and bigotry...loving it and Canada!
