I'm probably in the wrong forum, or maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

We found this stone in a field about a month ago, it had been unearthed after ploughing.

It's sandstone, but has a grey-white smooth outer to it. The dots seem to have been poked into it and look like they're in rows. The stone is about 10 inches long. The dots are only on one side of it.

Any ideas?

Is it a frosted cribbage stone?

Do you mean frosted as in it's been frozen at some point? It is a possibility that it's some primitive cribbage stone though. The field it was found in has been a field for the last 100 years or so, and we've never found anything else in it.

But thanks for that idea, we hadn't thought of that!
