I've seen cities in a lot worse shape than LC, although we could improve in a lot of areas too.
For starters, how about painting that little strip of busy Nacho street between Lohman and Telshor?
That strip of Nacho St that you refer to is not a city street. It is a private parking lot. Leave it to the genius city planners to allow something like this to occur. Not only is it a private lot, but it is owned by four seperate owners. Check it out on the Dona Ana County assessor web site. Zoom in on that area and you will see that the City does not own it. If we did not have such brainless persons in positions of authority in this cow town, this would never have been allowed to occur! A parking lot in the busiest traffic section of town is being used as a major roadway. God help anyone that gets hurt on that stretch. The city will not be liable. I guess we should just be lucky that the center stripe is there. If you read the codes for parking lot standards, it just does not force them to keep that center stripe up. Only to clearly paint the parking stalls and clearly mark the exits. It is a tragedy waiting to happen and Dan Soriano just does not care about it. What a sorry excuse for a traffic engineer. I think he has the qualifications to oversee the traffic in White Oaks.

So you are saying that Dan Soriano doesn't care? You just said he can't do anything about it as it is private property! How dare he do nothing about something he can do nothing about. Get a rope!

He absolutely does not care. At least two of the owners are more than willing to allow the City to take over that area and bring it up to roadway standards. He is not interested at all in exploring that avenue. It tells you exactly where he stands. He does not have the safety or well being of the public in mind. You cannot accomplish if you don't try. He also has the authority and DUTY to periodically do a traffic safety study of the area. It does not take a genius to sit out there at Nacho and Lohman for a couple of hours during the day to see exactly how messed up and dangerous that situation is. If the current configuration of that parking lot roadway poses a safety risk to the general public, it is his duty to find a solution to the problem. If that means closing off or relocating an exit or an entrance, so be it. He has known about this problem for years based on complaints, yet refuses to even attempt to do anything about it.

Las Cruces is doing much better than other cities in the country. The people here are what make this city. I am concerned out mayor is way disconnected with the people of this town, so how does he know that the real state of affairs are and what needs to be done to correct the problems. Looking at the long term, the city is counting on putting money into the East Mesa so that they will get a return on their investment in sales tax revenue. However, if you let the rest of the city detoriate (except the university area and downtown) like the mayor is allowing then the decay will spead all the way to the wealthier areas and Las Cruces will not be on any national lists anymore. It takes VISION to be a Mayor, and so far I have not been impressed. I do believe he is busy with his day job and has not realized that LC is in a pivotal point and the city's biggest strength is it's citizens. WE ALL LOVE THIS TOWN! AND BY THE WAY, ALL THE FEDERAL MATCHING DOLLARS YOU GET FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENTS PLEASE STOP APPLYING THE MONIES TO THE EAST MESA, AKA - SONOMA RANCH. OUR ROADS ARE IN VERY BAD SHAPE. TAKE THE TIME - PERSONALLY - TO DRIVE AROUND YOUR CITY AND DEVELOP A PLAN (YOURSELF) MAYOR OF WHAT YOUR HAVE FOUND ARE RELEVANT ISSUES TO BRING UP TO THE COUNCIL. WHILE YOU AT IT, HAVE A WALK WITH THE CITIZENS SO PEOPLE CAN GET TO KNOW YOU OUTSIDE THE CITY BUILDING, OR EVEN BETTER YET HAVE A TOWNHALL TYPE OF MEETING SO YOU CAN HERE WHAT YOUR CONSTITUENTS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT, AND THEN DEVELOP A LONG-RANG PLAN AROUND THAT AS WELL. DON'T ALWAYS DEPEND ON YOUR CITY PEOPLE FOR EVERYTHING. HELP US MAKE THIS A BETTER CITY --- FOR EVERYONE!!

Davin Lopez, President and CEO of MVEDA, plead guilty yesterday to 1 count of DUI according to the El Paso District Attorney's Office. There will be no jail time for this plea arrangement. Davin Lopez was arrested in October of 2009, after causing a 2 car accident and having a BAC of .161 (twice the Texas limit).

BossyBo this blog is not about yelling but emphasizing. I have spent years at city councils and know that all of them-including the mayor-are always disconnected from the city. This city is not any different. A good mayor would have town meetings, have walks with his/her constituents/etc. DO YOU GET IT NOW?

Not yelling...emphasing-the importance of Grassroots and connecting with your constituents. Sometimes you have to go to them; hence the suggestion of Town Hall Meeting or a Mayor's Walk. Thanks.

A Grassroots movement will keep this town from being overrun by a developer-driven philopsophy fueled by the Tea Party and Texan money. The point is to have continued quality of life in this town people of all types and walks of life must be involved. The dirtiest of politics can happen at the local government level especially when it comes to zone changes or questionable meetings. We the people of Las Cruces must keep the City accountable to us...just saying. Thanks.
