Spirit of Reagan wrote: <quoted text> Get some facts - there are just as many speculators betting against oil as betting for it. Obama is the worst thing that could happen - his tax proposals will crush the economy. All COMMODITIES are high due to demand. Look at the fertilizer companies, iron ore, other metals, grains, etc. There is HUGE demand from India and China and it is putting pressure on prices. If you want oil to come down - we should signal a national emergency and provide immediate authorization for the oil companies to start drilling in ANWR and other areas with easily accessible oil. At the same time, we should authorize emergency building of nuclear plants and other alternatives. We should also open up the shale deposits to recover the estimated 800 billion to 1.8 trillion barrels. That would make oil go down. Supporting the dollar would make it go down much faster. In order to do that we need higher interest rates, a drastic reduction in government spending and also need to consider getting rid of one or more cabinet level agencies such as Education. There are quite a few people in the general aviation community who think a draconian downsizing of the FAA (part of the Department of Transportation) is in order because they've simply outgrown their mission and are now primarily in the business of protecting their jobs versus serving the public. As this chorus of discontent grows, so will the pressure on the DOT to make significant changes there.

Funny how you blame Bush, while Clinton had 8 years to sign a few reform acts that would have helped, he didn't. The main problem w/ the economy is health care costs. The automakers spend more money on health care than they do on steel. That's not just the fault of George Bush, but the fault of Clinton as well.

Greenspan is responsible for a lot of it, opening the tap after 9/11 to avert a depression. The depression we would have had then is going to happen now...or at least a real bad downer. Bernanke isn't helping matters with his helicopter and Paulson is standing there with his hands in his pockets. Once a Dartmouth man, always a Dartmouth man. There's not much more Bush or the Fed can do now. They're gonna half-heartedly bail out Fannie and Freddie and they already bailed out Bear Stearns. There's NO MORE MONEY. If one or more of the regionals goes down, too bad. The FDIC will do their thing and that's it.

average american wrote: <quoted text> You are mean-spirited-you'd rather see double-digit unemployment and inflation and people who have more bills than income?? OOps that's happening as we speak. Don't worry- Obama will be a great president-it will take years to get out of this mess Bush & Co. have made. He's young, energetic and is extremely intelligent. He happens to be black and that's why people like you have a "problem"- it's your problem. Obama's being black IS NOT the problem. His color has NOTHING to do with me not wanting to see him in the White House!! I simpley do not agree with his policies and I do not like him as a person ... Period. And to be honest, many of my friends don't care for him either.( Be they black or white. You see ... Friendship knows no color, at least not in my eyes !!) So ... Who is it that has a problem with color?? Not I. I believe it is the person who brought the color issue up in their post !!

All because of skin color.....amazing, have you learned nothing since your last "Class of 73"...! Like I posted before ... The color of Obama's skin has NOTHING to do with me not wanting to see him become the President of the United States. I do not like him ... Period. If you want to listen and believe all of his false promises then you go right ahead and believe him. Let him paint a rosie picture for you. But when he fails and doesn't keep his promises ... Don't get on these boards and cry!! You are the type of person that no matter who was in the White House ... You would find fault.

Wow, how off topic can ALL of you get? The story was about a family photo being discovered too many years later and what that family went through. I think it is a touching story and one that should remind us to take nothing for granted!

Planned Parenthood provides free condoms, birth control at reduced rates according to income, pap tests, pelvic exams, pre and post natal care, sex education, and other services to the men, women, and children of the community. They do not "advocate" abortion. Look up Margaret Sanger in Wikipedia.

Spirit of Reagan wrote: <quoted text> Go look at Liberal writers, blogs and 529's - all claim we are in a "Depression". Meanwhile people sleep out all night to get an expensive iPhone. What would you call the current state of our economy?? Maybe you subscribe to Phil Gramm's (McCain's former economic advisor) philosophy that we are in a "Mental Recession". Mental or otherwise, this liberal can't afford the new iPhone-or much of anything- because I'm one of the hundreds of thousands of American's who have lost their jobs since January 2008. I have hope, however, that once Obama gets elected, the economy will get back on track and I will be able to return to my old standard of living.
