As we remember Emancipation Day with a public holiday, today 4 June 2013, we marvel the foresight of Tonga's King George Tupou I who initiated the Emancipation Edict, 150 years ago on 4 JuneA 1862.

have a read of the article above.. taufaahau replaced kinship with cash so that commoners like us could earn a fair wage from Higher authorities who would other wise demand we preform our duities to them as commoners...

read this
""All chiefs and people are set … at liberty from serfdom and all vassalage … and it shall not be lawful for any chief or person to seize or take by force or beg authoritatively in Tonga fashion anything from anyone. Everyone has the entire control over everything that is his."

Replacing kinship with cash

The Emancipation Edict abolished the obligations of those lower in the Tongan kinship ranking system to provide food and labour freely to those higher in the system. So instead of people relying on the kinship system for their daily livelihood, high-ranking Tongans, including the King and his government, would have to pay cash to get things done. It was an attempt to replace kinship with cash as the basis of the Tongan social system.

lol its funny but true Toa we were set free from the orders of our King to do whatever he asks of us... fighting, killing, serve, etc

you're a sorry propaganda mouthpiece of the royals. There never was any freedom, the fake king simply replaced overt kinship with covert kinsman, here the truth from the horse himself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch...

it' funny how laughing fools like you are still under the grandeur illusion that the common people that you call your subjects are still stupid and ignorant.

the people are still being treated as slaves, no longer by harsh physical force but by a subtle psychological persuasion.

you are a coward that run away from reality and refuse to acknowledge any of the kings exploitation that we all can see.

nobody looks stupid, that is only your thinking, the hateful mind creates ugly thoughts which comes out as stupid.

I find your obnoxious ridiculing quite entertaining, the only person that Does NOT care is you, the only person that tries to cover up the ugly exploitation business of the royals is you.

Haven't you heard the old proven saying, "The pen is mightier than the sword". And I am telling my story to mold the mindset of our fellow countrymen.

"Ko ko e pe 'oku vale, ko ho ngaahi ngaue 'oku hange ha feinga ke fa'elu e tu'i, ka 'e kei 'asi mai pe ia.. hehehe ... malo kasele

we had been deceived from day one, 150 years ago the first lousy king, offered the country to the hands of God, what a load of crap.
Tonga and God is my inheritance, so the king and the Noble's own the land, and there is no God, so my inheritance is bag of smoke
we are still getting ripped off today
we are still going to get ripped off tomorrow
we are still going to get ripped off next year
unless we do something
we have to win our country back
we have to do it today
you keep on fighting and demonstrating until we push these criminal gangs into the ocean as shark food

many tongans pride themselves on believing that they were never colonised by the white man, unfortunately with the corrupt government and royal family that we have at the moment, we are being led down the path to financial slavery, as well as being sold as indebted slaves to the Chinese,
yes we were never colonised by the white man, but certainly now we are being prostituted to the Chinese, is there anyone now sticking their chest out? maybe tongakid can sell his arse on the nearest street corner,To help relieve the financial burden on the king , and and of course the king wouldn't refuse to take it, so now kid, you know what to do for your patriotic duty
