Bring in bees from Mexico; they'll pollinate for less than half that

There's a lot of strings attached to the incentive program. The USDA and Monsanto need to stay out of beehives.

That good cause last year I used two dozen cans of Raid to rid my property of bees. Nice to see the state help out.

Control the food and you control the population.

Please elaborate on the program strings (which is limited to $2,400 per individual per year)? Must the worker bees be genetically altered homogeneously anti-union?

Why is this part of the Va. state budget to begin with? I would like to have honey bees but what holds me back is not Colony Collapse Disorder or losing the bees over a hard winter. The laws regarding the keeping of bees in Va. and having to have permits and unannounced inspections with the state and keeping them in a particular kind of expensive hive are far less of an incentive to keep bees than this Honey Bee Incentive program. What a waste of money.

I have 2 hives in my yard, I harvested honey for the first time this year and it is the best honey I've ever had, but I agree with the article, that isn't even the greatest benefit. There are fruit trees in our yard and my gradnmother's that hadn't produced in years, that we got fruit from this year, and our garden has been doing great. I hope they keep the grant, we were really planning to get another hive or two.

keep the program going save the bee's we need them and they need us. trun off one or two lights in all offices and see your light bill go down. turn down heat to 68 degrees and you will see savings.

Why can't you buy the bees. Why do I have to pay for your bees?

Another way to look at it is you're at least getting something back from the bees.
