Tonga's Nukuleka, the birth place of Polynesia

There are 1974 comments on the Matangi Tonga story from Jan 7, 2008, titled Tonga's Nukuleka, the birth place of Polynesia. In it, Matangi Tonga reports that:

“The designs are also very similar to tattoo designs.”

Nuku'alofa , Tonga: By Pesi Fonua NUKULEKA, a small fishing village on the northern shores of eastern Tongatapu, at the entrance to the Fanga'uta Lagoon, has been identified by a Canadian archaeologist, ... via Matangi Tonga

I discuss here the hegemony of the Tu’i Tonga dynasty i.e. how it was achieved and maintained for over a thousand years from 450 AD until around 1500 AD when there was an unsuccessful counter-hegemony by the Tu’i Ha’atakalaua line. In 1550 shortly after the Tu’i Ha’atakalaua failure every commentator of Tongan society has overlooked another counter hegemony by the third dynasty. The Tu’i Kanokupolu hegemony will be critically discussed with reference to a further counterhegemony by the Tu’i Tonga by which strategy the old dynasty managed to survive a bit longer.
Its only a thesis, but good reading Toa.
what the..it does make for good reading! Siaosi explored the issues that's been much discussed by Tongans & non-Tongans over the years.

LOL, Fue, maumau taimi ke tau fakamatala ha me'a aonga kia D-Kota, LOL, waste of time, Scholars in the Pacific have confirmed in great unison that Tonga is where it all began for Polynesia. Theyve also confirmed that there is absolutely little proof that a silly Tui Manua ever existed, and this is verified by Samoan scholars working in the field. Our Tongan heritage is not instilled in us by some silly Samoan gafa (creative lying geneaology) that is 80% bull shit and 20% wishful thinking. Tongan heritage comes from our ancestors legacy and what many Pacific scholars have come to accept as a most probable fact--that Tonga is the real deal. Poor modern day Samoans have so much learn, so much fiapoko, too much loto elo, and way too little humility. It's a modern day Samoan curse: too much pride for doing nothing, they take too much credit for what other Samoans do which is why Junior Seau (NFL star) once told Sports Illustrated: "I really dont like Samoan people, practically strangers, who see me as a role model and brag about it as if they know what Im talking about. They aint the ones on the field getting their heads busted." LOL, if you understand this statement then you and Seau now realize the different mentalilty between Tongan and Samoan people. Tongans don't need other Tongans to rep Tonga. You do it yourself for yourself and your family, the idea of a nation is different for Tongan people. We carry the true spirit of "TOA", the warrior that stands alone. Always have, and Im sure it will always be so. LOL, get it? If that don't help you, go see your Special Ed teacher at Dumbass Muli Valea Community College in Samoa.(Smiling)

Fuetahi – I am back from holidays and have read that you have been mocking me. If I wasn’t educated you would call me a stupid samoan…now that I say I am educated you think I am arrogant. Get over it, arrogance is always misunderstood. Have a look at your fellow Tongans and how they mock Dr Mahina; a phd is not looked at lightly. You cant write on websites and call yourself a doctor…there are years of study and research behind every published works…so if you are going to get angry with someone being arrogant…look at what your own people have posted and see how educated they are. The marriageof Mo'ungatonga with Ama's daughter Tohu'ia, and the creation of Ngata as paramount chief as Tu'i hihifo is another sign that he as Tu'i Ha'atakalaua had already been elevated in status. According to Tongan tradition Ngata was made Tu'i hihifo because his elder half brother Fotofili would inherit their father's title but the fact that Tohu'ia would have insisted upon recognition of her own son in accordance with the Tu'i Tonga tradition that the Samoan taupou was always made principal wife and her eldest son would automatically succeed his father did put some pressure on TH Mo'ugatonga."
According to your Tu’i Tonga tradition the Tongan woman is a concubine (I couldn’t find a better word so I used your fellow Tongans word). In Samoa it means faanofo not a masiofo. So before any of you bad mouth any of my sisters, please remember that. Remember she gets the last dance of the night. Its called Taualuga and the chief gets the last laugh of the night. LOL

Please Tongans stop with the warrior stories. If you want to look at your warrior traditions look at Tuna and Fata. In the history of western Polynesia when the tui tonga was recognized as one of Samoa’s own sons, no body dared to touch them. Not even Melanesians, Micronesians or Polynesians. You can ask your elders this. They will tell you. Its when Fata and Tuna dethroned Tui Tonga from Samoa that’s when they got assassinated from everywhere. Nobody in the history of Samoa has ever come to Samoa and assassinated Tui Manua, Tui Atua, Tui Aana, and Malietoa. You can take those facts to the bank and deposit it. Stop misleading the next generation of Polynesians.

LOL @Tuna and Fafa, that story is so misleading it aint even funny. But why not let one of my Samoan scholar friends explain it to you, LMAO

MYTH, CULTURAL IDENTITY, AND ETHNOPOLITICS:
SAMOA AND THE TONGAN "EMPIRE'
Jeannette Alofa Mageo
Department of Anthropology, Washington State University, Pullman WA

Dr. Tanuvasa Tavale (1990b) argues that Tuna and Fata only freed their own district
(Tuamasaga) from domination. Many Samoan high chiefs were subordinates and servants of Tongan royals by marriage and intertwining descent lines. Since they were affines, Samoan chiefs relied on Tongan aid in war, and Tongans thereby secured continuing influence and even dominance in Samoa. Like Anderson's (1983) premoder European aristocrats, their allegiances were
dynastic rather than national. A picture of Samoan politics as so fractionalized as to invite foreign interference is no doubt accurate. Succeeding Malietoas were continually defending their delimited sovereignty against other chiefs; their personal bodyguards assassinated rivals who became too popular (Stuebel 1976:74). What is key in the Tuna and Fata tale is that it indicates that by the twentieth century, the possibility of centralized, concerted political action had come to be seen as fundamental to the brothers' victory. In Gafua Uesale's version (1979:22), Tuna and Fata "sent messengers all over Samoa urging the people to rise like one man." This indicates a centralized version of Samoan politics directly influenced by the Tui Tonga system of hiearchy.

LOL, so silly to see uneducated Samoans get it wrong every friggin time. Go to school you little moepipis so I don't have to correct you guys with your own scholars. LMFAO, this is just too funny.

LOL who is tunga and fafa?? im sure they must be some local heroes from the 'sacred chicken' island ae LMAO..you won't find any story outside of samoa mentioning these two chicken roosters lMFAO even in my oral tongan tradition never mentioned the two..its just because ancient tongans don't give a shit who defeated them in samoa..its just another unsuccessful war for them that they lost and they won't ask who was the two homos leading the sneak attack because ancient tonga was full of warriors..to e to'a kae tu'u e to'a..you samoans should be thankful that the tongans didn't went back and raped your lafa assess again after that..because they respect what their leader was saying back to the samoan warriors; not to return as a warrior but as your guest..know your history ha'amoa (clan of chicken) and stop running your kaaimu'a mouth cos you guys used your women to plan your FREEDOM today..what a smart idea from the so-called fie warrior island hahahaha..tongans laughing

maybe you need to be a real man and stop fighting girls, and it would be good for you to mind some manners as it is easy to run your mouth.
