Criminals. If your ass has been on foodstamps for 17 years, you had no intentions to better yourself. It is so disgusting to know that 95% of El Paso who get foodstamps are illegals who use their so called american children to suck up our american system. Laws need to change. And the funny thing is El Paso don't give a damn. Mexico and illegals can care less about this country, it's all about what they can suck off us.

Thank you Democrats, that's what these losers want in office. I used to work for the Food Stamp office in El Paso back in the 90's. We used to get illegals in ALL the time with their snot-nosed kids with a US birth certificate because they came across the border to have them for free. Knowing that they were illegal, we were not allowed to call the Border Patrol, otherwise you would be fired on the spot. This directive came from the head in Austin and was enforced by the local office supervisors who were a bunch of idiots to start with as well. We had more than our share of 3rd and 4th generations of families on food stamps and welfare, all of them lazy, free public housing, welfare rip-off losers. The problem with this country is the liberal democrats who want to keep feeding these lazy a*s*s*h*o*l*e*s with free everything to keep themselves in office. I grew up with a guy whose family lived and still lives in public housing, they're from Juarez. This guy graduated from Jeff, went to the military and put in 20 years for his pension then got a job with the post office here in El Paso, getting ready to retire from there as well. Nice job, and his family to this day, still lives in public housing as does his 2 sisters. I paid over $20K to get my college degree and have worked to build my retirement and still have 15 years to go. My kids all are paying for their college because we don't qualify for financial aid. God Bless America. Next time you go vote, vote republican, that way we can stop all the freebies to these losers.

What do you expect when illegals are given benefits that aren't their right to have? They know that they can come over here, play the "I'm poor, can't find a job, and have 20 kids" card. When is this country going to take care of it's citizens first? I got an education, work hard, and everything I have I earned, and therefore deserve. What are these illegals doing to deserve what my tax dollars are providing them? NOTHING!! And don't say "cheap labor", because there is nothing cheap about my taxes going up so that they can keep getting their food stamps and free housing!! They don't want to get a job, learn English, or be grateful to what the U.S. is providing them. They just want to be lazy and bleed the taxpayer dry. Disgusting.

This is ridiculous. 15 years? 17 years? I think they should cut off after 6 months unless they can prove they have looked for work.

I will admit I did not read the article, but I do know people that work but do not make enough to feed their families, pay rent, utilties and so they have to resort to food stamps.

This is a big problem. For that reason, we need to focus on this first and ignore the 1000x (at least) more funds being ripped off by corporations that lobbied for corporate welfare, like big oil getting subsidies. It makes sense and anyone that disagrees is a marxist.

If they can't feed their families then they should quit multiplying. If they can't pay their rent then they should live somewhere cheaper. People who take food stamps for 17 years are useless fat lazy retards. You should live within your means.

I bet if they required these people to pass a drug and alcohol screening half of them would not pass. Better screening is needed. If people really need the help then they should be willing to go through whatever was necessary to provide documentation. When it comes to feeding your children you have to put your pride aside and do what is necessary. This should not be a permanent solution but only a place to get back on your feet.

Keep working Taxpayers! Those on government assistance are depending on you!

In another development today, less than half of Americans pay 100% of all income taxes. For those that graduated from A Detroit school, that means a majority of Americans do not pay any income taxes and many of these people still get refunds via refundable tax credits. The liberals have it just as they always have dreamed. They now have a majority of Americans that will support more government programs and more income redistribution programs because they have zero cost in it.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274...

"And a new congressional study concludes that the percentage of U.S. households owing no federal income tax climbed to 51% for 2009. "

“You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.“
“When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

This is very embarrassing news.

I once found myself in dire need of social service assistance after being laid-off, but was denied assistance based on several factors, like my unemployment income was above the minimum required for assistance. I indeed felt humiliated and cheated.

In the El Paso area you see families drive up in nice cars/SUVs/Trucks and the wife carrying a D&B purse, designer sunglasses and/or shoes and then she pulls out the Lone Star Card at the check out counter. Amazing how we let this slide.

Shaking my head in disgust,

I've never been on food stamps or welfare and I live well within my means. I have what I have because I've worked for it and earned every penny. I don't like lazy fat people who take from the system their whole useless lives.

You know ALL the people I know did not start with let me get on food stamps and I will have as many kids as possible. In ALL cases they had GOOD jobs and when the economy tanked so did their jobs. So they did what any responsible non-life time welfare receipent does they applied for assistance until they get back on their feet. Isn't that why that system is there? It should be not a way of life but for short term assistance if and when it is needed.
