Full story: TwinCities.com

The sea that sculpted North Carolina's coast, from its arc of barrier islands to the vast, nurturing sounds, is reshaping it once again.

Is this some type of mass psychosis?

You can't have water level in one part of the ocean higher than water level in another part of the same ocean.(except for minor tide changes).

Even a grade school child knows this instinctively. Put some water in a pan. The water flattens out. It is a characteristic of all fluids.

These people are not scientists. They are embarrassingly stupid.

Duh, maybe the land is sinking.

The Envirorads have very little rergard for truth or honesty. Whatever scare tactics they can find to frighten the sheeple , they will use. They are just one of the advance guards for the progessive totalitarian movement.

Well folks this is another affshoot of Climate Change.

Ocean waters can and will rise at different levels depending on where in the world you are.

You see Climate change is wierd and can cause the oceans to be egg shaped on the Globe. It's called Climate Change oceans. Not to be confused with Global Ocean change which is a local change to water depths around the world.

You see IF you send Fat Al Gore a million dollars he will see to it that your ocean is a t a good level.

Beach erosion is the cause. Less coastline does not mean the water is rising.
Many take a simple problem (erosion) and twist it to meet their political agendas, it always comes back on them though, kinda like the global warming fiasco (As I sit here in Georgia freezing)

the outerbanks is not the mainland. it's , in effect, a sand bar that changes over time.

So how do those of you who talk about rising waters feel about the idea of an outlying landing field for the U.S. Navy jets stationed at Naval Auxillory Landing Field Fentress and Naval Air Station Oceana!?

Do you think that more water is melting from the ice caps and causing earthquakes because of the added weight?

fantastic!! Have I found a bunch of people who are actually awake and aware? There may be hope after all.Their latest ploy..., collapse the economic system, dumb down our kids, beef up public employees and agencies, create chaos, take away our guns, search little old ladies, ruin capitalism, redistribute wealth,(to create a dependent voting base) etc. etc., all the time telling us how the republicans want to take away our social security and medicare. Wake up, people, they (Ryan and the new recruits) are trying to save them!!! Undo the mess created in the last years of Democratic rule. We can do this!!!Pass the word.

Are YOU from Outer Banks? You call US "stupid"? It kills me when "knowitalls" dictate your assumptions around as though you own the place and as though you were experts . Go home!

I would suggest that no Outer Banks resident ever listen to a hurricane or even a weather forecast again, particularly because scientists and PHD's (piled high dung) are always involved. These scientists obviously have no clue what they're talking about whenever they predict hurricane formation or give weather warnings of any sort. Let's get back to the old time ways. Walk outside. Lick your finger and stick it up to see which way the wind blows. Then go back inside and pray.

Guess what? You are wrong.

How's your geology? You know the Chunnel?

During its construction, the French and the British found out the hard way. Read up on it, yourself that is.

The Labrador and Gulf Stream Currents are responsible for the Outer Banks formation. North and South meet in a sand collision. But ocean currents also affect sea level rise. The Gulf Stream helps pull water back off the mainland towards the open ocean.

Supposedly, Greenland ice melt runoff has been weakening the Gulf Stream since 1990, so the U.S. east coast is seeing the most sea level rise, dis-proportionally, globally, from Hatteras to Boston. Hatteras is where the Gulf Stream turns away from the coast.

Plans are already in action, whether you know it or not. The NPA is in full force, carrying out its "conservation" efforts. Wake up, Avon. Piping plover are a smoke screen. "Conservation" simply means "no government handouts" to protect the shoreline. They'll let these areas recede into the ocean.

That's more like what is really happening. It's all about the money. Teach your youngsters about windmills.

You people are mostly retarded and ignorant to the truth. Hotter water = expansion. Differential heating cause by the sun and the seaons means different locations will have warmer water than others. @CommonSense (or lack thereof)The complex patterns of ocean currents can't be compared to a pan full of water (ignorant you are).
