Kibbutzim were traditionally set up in Pre-Israel palestine. For the majority, they were farming communities that ran on the ideas of socialism. Every one was apart of one large family that had one large family bank account. They all worked for the good of the community, took care of each other, and money and greed played very little part of the society. However, due to economic struggles, the kibbutzim, over the years, have started to give up that collectivist ideology. They have started paying there members wages in regard to what they do and how much they work. However, the organization in charge of the Kibbutizm was not happy about this at all. Over the course of a few years and many legal battles, the Kibbutizm were allowed to stay in operation. A long with the economic socialism of the traditional Kibbutzim, these places also had public dining rooms, public living spaces, and a collective society. This blog is celebrating the long tradition of the Kibbutzim, but still praises its abandonment of collectivist society. It seems strange that one particular celebration glorifies the Kibbutzim as a movement while still celebrating the loss of the main idea of the movement.
