Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

got to be kidding me. Didn't they start the fire. Now they have to hire/retain more fire fighters to put out their own fires at tax payers expense. Hmmm...

Yeah, I guess you still need to be paying firefighters. Especially IF they are the ones starting the fires!

Ya, what the *!&k is this? One way to keep you employed, start your own fires then tell the State you need more firefighters. Way to go.

What it really is!!! Cal Fire figured out a way to con the state into extending fire season. They didn't have to go on furlough during the "fire season". They claimed they couldn't possibly get their jobs done. Well, they can bank those furlough days for the off season in my opinion. Good job Cal Fire. Cal Fire even admitted in the article that they were alright with the staffing when the fire started and they weren't "compromised". Some con manager figured a way to get more cash.
"said Janet Upton, a spokeswoman for the state's Cal Fire office. "The worst thing that could happen is we get a rash of other fires.... We need to make sure we can handle it."
They will continue to try and do this through winter if they can. Just watch. Next it will be fear of mudslides and emergency response.

You people on here are morons. Cal Fire down staffed there engines from 4 to 3 a couple weeks ago. The staffing is ideal right now for when the fires happen down south since there fire season usually starts in right now. I would rather pay the firefighters on there current wages, than have to hire them back on OES wages, which cost the state even more. This state would be lost without Cal Fire. Any large incident in California, Cal Fire is there. From Wildland Fire, flood, earthquakes, Hurrican(Katrina), to Sept 11th Cal Fire has been there. Maybe next time you should thank then since they work harder then any Local Goverment Fire does.
