What the hell is happening to this country? Home of the free, land of the brave...We have rules and laws for many reasons and we gotta keep changing them for religious and immagrant reasons....pathetic. When this person was hired they should have said NO to her wearing the scarf. End of story...

Awhile back, a man was fired from his job because he refused to quit distributing Christian literature at his work place, the company had asked him to stop at least twice, but he continued to do so and was fired for refusing his employer's request. This woman did the same thing, the only difference here is established religion versus unestablished cult in the workplace. Her employers followed company protocol, and she refused to adhere to their requests, hence she was first suspended, then released from their employ. Her protests were based on islamic faith, which is a structured & organized CULT, not a religion. To understand the differences of structured & organized cults, watch the movie, Life of Brian, which although is a fictional film, the structure of the movie explains symbolisms that are used as archetypal symbols of government controlled behaviors through religious tenets. Religious freedom is defined as personal beliefs practiced with the confines of the home, where as Christianity was used in founding this nation and the ideals and laws we observe, or used to observe today. In islamic countries, Christians are contantly being harrassed, beaten, even killed for much less than what this woman did. Perhaps if she and her family want to openly practice their faith, going back to where they came from might be a good option? This is not about being fair or being equal in beliefs, this is NOT about racism or egocentrism, it is about being one sided in demands of faith based beliefs while ignoring the established norms of a culture already in place.

This woman needs to S T F U as Abercrombie has the right to make rules about clothing in their stores. They require all who work there to wear the A&F products.

Even if she works in the stock room, she will be seen by customers and they have the right to set those rules.

If you want to work there, conform or find another job. I bet a Christian wearing bible verses on their shirt would be told to remove that also..... This woman is making too much out of this.

Sorry I have to agree, our country, our rules. Covered heads and bodies still do not offer any feeling of comfort in this country. There are many corporations that do not allow hats, sandals, baggy pants, or other baggy clothes or untied shoes. Claim it religious reasons or personal preferences, some of our religions have special uses of materials also, but they used during our religious celebrations of church, synagogue attendance or activities. The person that hired her should have checked her options closer and made the dress code clear. The use of cell phones and driving cars (recklessly) or wearing high heeled shoes certainly doesn't seem to interfere with their religious rules, why is that?

When you are hired there are rules. If you don't want to follow them - find a job somewhere else. I am tired of people suing because they can't wear their head scarf - which could come undone and get caught on something and strangle them - then they would sue for that. The short person who tried to work at a coffee shop but couldn't reach things and wanted a stool - which would have been in the way of customers and a hazard to them - accept yourself the way you are and get an appropriate job. I mean I would love to work at A & F but am too heavy to wear their clothes - so I don't apply. Get some common sense and just move on people.

Um, the story says she was hired WEARING the head wrap so if anyone should be fired, it should be the dumb a-s-s that hired her for not knowing company policy.

She works in the warehouse not the retail store. If she was in the retail store she would be nude except for the head wrap, knwing A&F.

I believe the law says that people are free to worship in the religion they choose without fear of persecution. It doesn't say anything about having to change laws to accomadate anyone or giving anyone special privilages because of a religious belief. If you want the job, you follow the employers rules or leave. end of story. I can see where wearing those scarves could be a hazard in that work environment.

She has every right to sue. When applying, she was told she could wear it. When hired, she was told she could wear it. For four freaking months she wore it and there was no problem. Someone who was not her supervisor told her something that conflicted with what her own supervisor had told her all along and she got sacked for not complying. They don't say whether there was any discussion or if they fired her on the spot, and I'd be interested in knowing that. They also don't say anything about her performance on the job, etc. Was this the final straw in 4 months of being a crappy employee, or was she working hard at her job and got fired for something like that out of the blue?

I guess it's a hazard of the private sector. Someone close to me was a counselor for troubled children for 20 years through a for-profit company, had always had great performance reviews, had good numbers, but got sacked as soon as she turned 60 with no warning. At least you can still challenge over racism. Age-ism is a growing problem in the workforce, and there's not much of a defense against it. But I digress.

Hard to judge this case without knowing more. I suppose that's why they'll settle it in court.
