How do you explain drunks walking in front of cars in the night with black clothing on. If they are not alcoholics, and they do this, then what are they?

Tried to post before and it did not show up, so here is a brief recap of my former post:

1) The guys who got hit, drunk or not, were on foot and not endangering the innocent at the time. Locals, show the family some modicum of respect for raising them right in that regard.

2) The media said they were fighting at the time. If that is not the case, or if one of them lawyered up and was told he was going to be criminally liable for the injuries to the other because of the fight and he changed his story, fine, so long as he was not attacking a local it is not a concern.

3) The sense of outrage on the board from those living in town is caused by all manner of stupidity people in PB have to put up with from non-locals. While I don't condone glee at the misfortune of others, please try to understand the frustration. At the same time, I hope all your sons, brothers and friends are recovering.

4) The PATRIOT Act CANNOT be used by local law enforcement to acquire a warrant. The PATRIOT Act was an expansion of the 1978 FISA legislation which concerns only foreign intelligence investigations. There are rules, known as "The Wall" for how information may be passed from federal investigators to municipal law enforcement. This case will not be a federal investigation and thus the PATRIOT Act and FISA do not apply. I am not going to retype my whole legal analysis again, but will only say that anyone who says otherwise is liar attempting to promote his own agenda.

5) There is substantial case law which allows municipal law enforcement to obtain search warrants to identify persons who post information online. While I do not believe the the posts above alone or in combination supply grounds for such a warrant, the Patriot Act and FISA would not only be unconstitutional if applied, but also unnecessary.

So, any more news on these two guys?

Are they getting well?

It's weird that something like this happens and there's such discrepancies between what's reported and what people say actually happened with no follow-up story, retraction, etc. Then again, since April, there's been so many fights, beatings, muggings, killings, hit and runs, etc. in Pacific Beach it's almost become commonplace, which is ... a shame.

" A man who reads nothing is more educated than a man who reads nothing but newspapers." Thomas Jefferson.
Our media is unchecked and our masses are by and large uninformed.
If these two men had been beaten, mugged and thrown in front of the suv it wouldn't matter. The Chris's of the world would read that they were, drinking, fighting, and in the middle of the street. The injured are the fools and the injured have nobody but themselves to blame. It all fits so neatly that there really isn't any other reason to follow up on the inocent driver.
If the police and the newspapers would have done their jobs right the first time we can conclude that there would be far fewer Chris's in this particular event.
Our society is littered with misinformation and to only blame the ignorant is unjust.
In the meantime we lost another frog in Afghanistan 2 nights ago.

I agree. When this story first came out it was buried. There was no update after that. We may have been able to flush the driver out but the media thought that whatever Paris Hilton or Lindsey was up to was more important that actually reporting news.

Hey bro, I bet you feel like a bad ass when you write stuff like that about people you don't even know. You obviously don't know shit about the Team's and attempted Bud's and quit like a bitch you are. I wish there could be a way I could meet you and find out what kind of person you really are. You're weak sauce buddy!!!

Good...I am so glad that the police aren't afraid to tell it like it is, and express their disgust at these two idiots. Both of them deserved to get whacked by the phantom SUV, as far as I'm concerned. I thought SEAL members aren't supposed to divulge their names to the press for security reasons? Frick'n DeFranco ought to be ashamed of himself for allowing himself to be put into a position that would incite a physical drunken confrontation. He doesn't deserve to wear the Navy uniform or his frigg'n Trident pin!

Wow. ok. I suppose everyone deserves what they get right? Sometimes people do stupid things but it doesnt mean they deserve something like this. Maybe you'll get lucky and your kid or wife will "stupidly" walk out into the street without looking and get splattered! That would be fun! I happen to know Defranco as I was in training with him. He's a good guy. You people have no clue what goes on in the world so just stay out of our way. You don't have the balls to go through what we've been through and I'm so sick of you limp wristed civilians acting like you know whats up. have fun with your not so free freedom.

Hello. I'm Sal's younger sister. Yes that was me, posting 5 years ago as Bubbly. I'm 14 now and more mature than then. Sal made a miraculous recovery. If you met him today, you wouldn't even be able to tell what occurred to him 5 years ago. I love my older brother, and he is the most amazing person I know. My family thanks you all for your prayers and kind words during this time.

I realize this was a long time ago, but I was actually in the Navy with Sal and saw this story a few years ago. I've periodically checked to see if I could find updates as to his condition but keep only being able to find this story. If anyone who knows him sees this, would you be able to let me know how this turned out? I am sorry for his family's suffering and hope everything is ok. As for the dude who kept posting trying to blame these guys, I didn't once see you criticize the driver, not for hitting them, but for taking off afterwards. If you weren't there, I'd suggest keeping your mouth shut, an that goes for any future situations. Again, to Sal's family, I'm sorry that you've had to go through this.
